- Wedding: February 2012
Received all of our pictures and have so many favorites! Just realized I never really said much about the day of … so here goes. I guess this is my OFFICIAL recap 😉
We got engaged on Christmas Eve and immediately started planning our local, barn wedding. We were paying for it ourselves and were wanting to get married Summer 2012. Right away, we realized how much stress everything was going to be. Just trying to pick a date made me angry. Mother-In-Law had this, this and this going on. SIL had this and this. My family had this and this to consider. Had to pick a date asap and put a deposit on the venue, but no one wanted to let us just pick the venue we liked! AHHHH.
On top of all of the opinions, we were having to make cuts in our budget to things that we really didn’t want to cut. It just wasn’t looking like our original plan at all. On a whim, I suggested eloping. Then I started thinking about what type of elopement I’d like… a courthouse elopement! As we discussed it more, the plan started forming and we got really excited at the idea of it just being the two of us allllll day! How romantic!
Then we told his mom.
DUN. DUN. DUNNNNNNNNNNNN.
That didn’t go too well. She argued, called me selfish and Darling Husband and her didn’t talk for a few weeks. 🙁 Thankfully, we were all able to eventually get past everything… but it stressful for a while. The rest of our families were incredibly supportive!
We bought DH’s outfit from department stores… pants were Apt 9 from Kohls, Shirt was Kohls and vest from Macy’s. I DIY’d his boutineer to go with my bouquet.
My dress was from Dillards, the shoes I DIY’d … mod podge & glitter on a pair of 5 year old Madden Girl pumps I already owned! I made my own brooch bouquet with brooches I collected from friends, family, thrift stores and ebay. My hair fascinator was made by me as well … and I just used a cheap-o birdcage veil from Michaels (that I plucked the rhinestones off of). My ivory coat was found on ebay, along with my wedding band! We purchased those just two weeks before the wedding. Ha.
On the day of, we got ready together at our house. Darling Husband dropped the dogs off at his mom’s and then we headed off to the courthouse to meet my good friend and our photographer, Ashley Forrette. Our ceremony was pretty quick… but the judge did kick out an entire courtroom of people so he could perform our 2pm scheduled ceremony! It was awesome. When we left the courtroom, the entire waiting area outside clapped for us & wished us congratulations! ha.
