My wedding isn’t until July 26, 2014 so I wanted to hold off a bit longer before booking anything. That said, the venue coordinator emailed me and let me know another couple was looking at that day so we went ahead and signed the contract and sent over our deposit.
So excited! It’s our ceremony and reception site so I feel like I’ve already taken so much off the list!
How far in advance did the rest of the bees book your venues?

@Tphan: Congratulations on booking your venue! Are there are any photos of your venue you can show us? 🙂 We booked our venue abouta year in advance, but when people are considering the same days, you should just sign it! 😀

@Tphan: Congrats!! Such a big step. Our venue is also both our ceremony and reception location. I think that will work our perfectly for us, so our guests won’t have to drive anywhere in between the two. We booked our venue in July of 2012, so 15 months in advance. We took a giant break after booking our venue and booking anything else, and I have to be honest, I wish we didn’t.
My advice to you is to start looking for other vendors now, too. Photographer, caterer, music (DJ or band, whatever you’re going with), florist, etc. The way I see it, once you book the venue, there’s no reason to wait to do anything else. We didn’t really start looking for anything else until November 2012, so 11 months to go and we missed out on a great photographer (the one we booked is great, but I really am disappointed we didn’t get the original one that was already booked). November-January were really stressful months for us. (Who wants extra stress during the holidays?!?)
Good luck planning! Such an exciting time.

@Tphan: We booked Janaury 2013 for our May 2014 wedding (we actually toured the place on 12/30/12). We took her last available day in May 2014 (and she was already 90% booked for June – September). We had a two week grace period between when we toured and when we had to put down a deposit. During that two week time period she wouldn’t book it to another couple. She notified me 3 times during those 2 weeks that she had inquiries for that date. I’m so glad we did it early (and we are guaranteed 2013 pricing!). Never too early to secure your first choice venues/vendors.

@Tphan: We booked ours a year before, but I found it very scary as that was it then, commitment made. Agree with @pengoala: pics? And go for it when other people are considering the same day

My fiancé took a bunch of photos when we visited the venue but they’re massive so I won’t post them.
However, here’s a post of another wedding there:
The wedding coordinator there recommends we book our officiant next, and yes I’m already going through and making a spreadsheet of local photographers and narrowing it down to who we want to meet with.
My fiancé lives in another country so I have to organize things in advance and when he’s here we’ll just go on wedding planning over drive!
