@lanipapillon: OMG!  I was totally floored that we are paying about $900, which is the cost of a 1 year membership (for a first-time couple) to FH’s childhood synogogue, so we could have his cantor marry us.  We don’t actually have to pay the Cantor.  I thought that was high….

$1800 sounds totally off the wall!!  I live in NJ outside Philly, I can’t imagine its THAT much higher a few hours north…

@lanipapillon: Oh wow, that is WAY too high! I have never heard of an officiant over 1000 (or even close to that!). Around here i’ve  only heard of them costing $250-400

From my experience, that’s average for big cities like New York and Los Angeles. Our rabbi was a friend and charges about $1200.

I was afraid our rabbi would be that expensive after reading stuff like that online, but fotunately when we asked he said they didn’t charge for members/members kids. This is from the synagogue in Kentucky where Fiance grew up. The rabbi is even travelling 5 hours for our wedding. Keep looking – it seems like costs vary wildly!

wow – that seems a little high.  our rabbi requested an honorarium of $600 which ultimately got donated to the temple where he is affiliated (we are not members)

Ours was $1,500 (in the Boston area), and I thought that was high!

That is just nuts. We were getting quotes for $500-$700. Ultimately, we are going with  a family friend, but honestly, we would have had a good family member pay $25 to become legal to perform the ceremony for the day.

We are hoping to get our rabbi for about $500, he married my sister and doing her baby naming in a few weeks (maybe there’s a family rate!), and are having a very secular but traditional ceremony.  And I thought what we were paying was high… wow!

I am having my wedding at the synagouge and the Rabbi is included in the cost, however it would be more if you wanted a Rabbi from a different synagouge to  come.
