WOW!  I had sticker shock over being charged $250.  I guess mine was nothing though.  I would look into getting someone close to do it for you.  Unless you don’t mind paying 600+

We did the one day designation and my uncle married us and it was perfect!  It meant so much to us to have the ceremony performed by someone who knows and loves us.  I wrote most of the cermony myself and gave him a bit at the beginning for him to “ad lib” about marriage and say what he wanted and it was great.  But.. we had a short and sweet ceremony that wasn’t strongly religious.  If you are looking for something really robust I would hire a pro.

ETA: profile says Nashville because I live there… wedding was in Concord, MA

@BostonBaby:

I say choice #2  She will probably be delighted.  It won’t cost a fortune, and she knows you better, so can tailor your wedding to the 2 of you.  I bet you could find some lovely examples of wedding ceremony/vows and make them totally YOU!! 🙂

Our Officiant is in RI and usually charges 750. He offered a military discount so we’re having him for a little less. It seems that 500-800 is the range here in New England.

I’m in CT and we are paying $125 with no travel time really. She is a JoftheP that used to work with my mother. I am guessing we got a friends and family discount? I have heard of people paying $300 and so, but never that much. thats nuts.

I used an officiant and was married in MA. As I understand it, JPs in MA are not allowed to charge more than $100 if you are getting married in the same town that they reside, or no more than $150 if it’s in another town within MA. Though, many charge additional for attending the rehearsal, pre-planning, etc. I found a site that lists JPs in MA by towns: http://www.findajp.com/findmass.htm,

I found the Justice of the Peace I used here, though I would not recommend her. If I had to do it over again, I would have asked a close friend or family member to perform the ceremony.

I found an officiant in South Boston for $100 or $150 with travel. Her name is Mary Connelly. Her email is [email protected]. she has a few ways to do ceremonys but allows you to pick the sayings and vows on your own.
