justwaiting1230 :  It is only reasonable if he is also cooking the food and he’s djing the damn wedding. That’s ridiculous.

We paid $800 so I don’t think it’s too high. You get what you pay for. Our officiant spent lots of time with us before hand personalizing the ceremony. We had 3 or 4 meetings in person. He went over our vows and made sure they “matched” (ie one wasn’t longer than the other). He also took the time to talk with our friends so he could get a good feeling of who we are as a couple, and that made his ceremony sooooo personal and special.

If you’re not getting any of that extra stuff and it’s just $750 for a basic ceremony then I’d say it’s too high.

edit: it also included him coming to the rehearsal obviously haha 🙂

I would compare and see what other officiants charge. The one we are going with is average for the area. And lower than what you pay.

Ours was 40 for a quick courthouse wedding for legal purposes. He tried not to take it at all and in the end I think we could only force 20 on him anyway. He was weird though, as well as nice, so there could be a bit of ‘get what you paid for’ there. Remember that they will be there significantly longer than the 20 minutes for your ceremony. Seems like 100-300 is reasonable, depending on those expectations.

I would shop around a bit. I live in a HCOL area and $300 seemed to be going rate and what I’m paying for mine.

Ours will be free, but it’s customary in our culture to give them a gift, so I’m budgeting $75 for that.

Ours is $350AU and I’m not sure what else she could possibly do for us to be honest. Meets with us, personalises everything, responds quickly, is personable and kind. I’d love to know what $700 would buy us?!

You do get what you pay for. Ours was $400 which was double the costs of most in my area but it was wonderful!  We live in one of the places where weddings are cheaper than average so if I lived in a different part of the country I’d be ready to pay that for a nice, meaningful ceremony.

I’m from Aus and average here is $600-1000, not sure if that helps with conversion rate. It includes all paperwork filed, completely customised ceremony and copy of our ceremony in a folder with marriage certificate.

justwaiting1230 : WOW! I didn’t realize they charge that much sometimes. My fiancé and I asked a family friend to marry us who is also an evangelist so he is able too. But he isn’t charging us because we helped work his Firework tent this past Summer. I can’t imagine paying that much for 20 minutes. What do you plan to do?
