Hi Madison Bees! I know this question has been asked in general on the Bee but I am hoping to get a Madison perspective or at least a Wisconsin perspective. What should I expect to pay for a wedding officiant?
The first one I looked into is $680 + $120 for a rehearsal. That’s $800! That’s the same amount we’re paying for our ceremony space! It seems a bit much to me. I am now looking into having a pastor at the church we attend officiate. We are not members though so I wasn’t sure if that would be an issue or not. I looked online just to get a general idea from many of the officiants that had such great reviews but so few list any pricing at all and the ones that do are all way more than I expected.
I’m not saying they might not be worth it in the end. But I had no idea it would cost that much extra. I was thinking more around $300. Am I just way too low in my initial estimation? FI is paying for the officiant and we really don’t want it to break the bank. I kind of went off estimating based on what I’ve seen in some wedding books. That said my Knot Book of Lists said fees for a Marriage License are around $30-$40. Not here, our license is $120 (cash only). So add that on top of the officiant fee…it adds up.
