Hello Bees – are you giving your officiants anything for their part in your big day? I’ve read that a “donation” is standard, should you also give a gift as well? If so, what are some ideas that you have for officiant gifts? My officiant is the pastor at my church and his birthday is also the day of our ceremony, so I am looking for ideas since he is not only performing our ceremony, but he’s also giving up his birthday to do this for us. Thank you in advance.

We didn’t give a donation to the Temple, since my husband’s family is very committed and active (and certainly paid up in dues), but we did give a donation to a charity we know is very important to him. We also gave him a silly inexpensive gift to make him smile and show we really cared about him personally — he LOVES root beer, so we hunted around for a locally made, kosher root beer and gave him a six pack (with a thank you card and mention of the donation in his honor). I’m not sure that helps you all that much as it’s very specific to our Rabbi, but I can tell you that he absolutely loved it. Something small and personal combined with a donation to his favorite organization was perfect for us.
