- Wedding: November 2011
About a month ago our officiant (the deacon from our church) had a heart attack. I talked with him a few weeks after the fact and he told me about it, said it was minor and discussed it as if it wasn’t a big deal.
Our wedding is in two weeks and we were supposed to have a meeting with him to finalize the ceremony readings and such this coming Monday. I got a call from him tonight saying he is back in the hospital and will for obvious reasons have to reschedule our meeting, it sounds like he did not have another heart attack but is having heart related problems.
Would it be innapropriate to ask him if it might be best to have either the parish priest or retired deacon do our ceremony instead of him? I don’t want to come off as rude or unsympathetic, I just feel like right now the last thing he should be worried about is prepping for our wedding. I also am worried something else will happen closer to the wedding date and we will be without an officiant the day of. Since our wedding is the Saturday after Thanksgiving I feel like we won’t really have the luxury of finding a priest last minute.
He seems like the type of guy that made a commitment to do this and wouldn’t back out on his own, should I say something to him or trust that he knows what his health will allow?
