@ljames10:  I am pretty sure you can still have a non religious ceremony. Our officiant is part of a church but does all sorts of services!

Typically (though not always), the officiant will meet with you guys to figure out what kind of ceremony you both want, and how to make it personal for you. This is regardless of religious affliation. I would sit down and talk with his uncle to make sure that he knows that it’s important to you guys that the ceremony is personal (read: not hyper-religious). That way you can get a sense of how he’s going to incorporate faith and religion into the ceremony without offending anyone.
