I would let it go.  In some Christian Churches, the changing colors of the vestments(robes/clothes) indicates a different season but October is ordinary time (Green mostly).  Fiance and I are having a Catholic ceremony by a Dominican and their robes are white.

EDIT: I guess if bothers you, I think you could ask but they might not do it?

Your officiant should not be wearing white. Is it stated in your contract that she will wear white??? If I were you, I would suggest very strongly to her that she wear something else.

actually in our church, and most baptist churches i have been to (aka a million since my dad is a minister) the preacher often wears a white robe (usually with red striping and DR bars if they have them, along with red crosses) looks great actually – and goes along with the wedding theme.

edited to say – most ministers have several robes that they can change if need be…. so if you are that dead set against it, as long as its not a holy day or somethign that MUST be done, im guessing they can change to another robe….

Oh, well if she’s a notary then she can wear whatever she wants (ie she doesn’t have to wear the white robe because a church is telling her to) so just tell her you don’t feel comfortable in it and suggest alternatives.  I can’t imagine it’d be a huge deal for her…

My dad (who was a Methodist minister for 20 years) often wore white robes on Sunday. I’m sure he probably wore them for weddings too. But usually he had stoles that he would wear with them.

Ask her if she has a different color she can wear. It seems kind of strange that she’s a notary and wearing a white robe – seems like she could wear a nice suit or a black robe like a Justice of the Peace.

As she is not a religious figure I think its completely appropriate to ask her to wear something else.

I agree that if she’s not a religious officant, then it’s perfectly ok to ask her not to wear white. I’m Orthodox, and in our church, we do have different robe colors depending on the liturgical season. I asked my priests to wear white just b/c I really like their white robes, but they look nothing like a wedding gown! Haha…

NO! Tell her. It is YOUR wedding….don’t let something like this slide…. No one should be wearing white
