I had the same situation as you. We wanted a spiritual but non-denominational ceremony that was personal and intimate. We found the best solution for us was to have a close friend officiate. He took an easy online course that cost I think $25 to become a "licensed officiant" in the state of California and was then able to legally marry us. Just something else to consider!

Our officiant is non-denominational and is from San Diego, he is charging us $250, for a wedding in rosarito, Mexico.
