That does seem high, but I’m not sure what’s typical in NJ.

My wedding is in New England and we’ve hired a local Justice of the Peace who charges $125 for the ceremony and about $50 more if you want her there for a rehearsal.  This is for a fairly customized ceremony with as much back-and-forth input as we want leading up to the wedding.

My rabbi is charging $600 plus the cost of a hotel room.  She is still in school and just starting out so $700 for an established officiant seems fairly normal to me…That being said, you could always say that you liked him ,want him to do the wedding but the fee is more than you can afford and see if he will lower it a bit…

Ours is $275 for everything, but I think that it varies a whole lot by area.

We’re planning on paying for the hotel and gas, plus a $50 donation. $700 is too much for our $4000 budget!

I’m a wedding officiant / celebrant in NJ, and my fee base ranges from $400 to $525, with an add on for travel and rehearsal  (this makes my average ceremony about $500-$700 – you can see more about what my fee includes on my website: http://www.eclectic-unions.com/fees/ ).

That being said, OUR wedding officiant (who is AWESOME) is $750.  Officiants in NJ (especially celebrants) can range from $400 to $800, depending on a lot of factors.

What are you getting for that price?  Does it include a custom written ceremony?  Do you have editing power?  Do you get help with your vows?  How does he write your wedding ceremony for you? How does he work with you to create the ceremony?  Does that include a rehearsal?

If you are confident in your officiant, a $700 ceremony is worth it, for your peace of mind and a beautiful, custom ceremony.  Good luck!!

our rabbi is $400, which seemed high to me, but he’s our rabbi so we didn’t have much of a choice. i don’t know what prices are in nj though.

I’m in NJ and my officiant is $600, but she said she was raising her price in 2010 to $800

Thart seems like a lot to me too.  I booked a great (so far) officiant for $325, which includes the rehearsal.  I did meert with others who were charging much much more but the quality was all the same if not worse.  You can find a less expensive officiant for sure!

That seems really high to me, but I guess it depends on the area. We paid $375 in South Florida and he was by far the cheapest I found.

Maybe you can keep searching around. That’s what I did until I found a price and an officiant I was happy with.

I have no idea, but I think our officiants only charge around $100! and if we go with a pastor, we just have to give him whatever we want because he is free.
