OK I’m freaking out. I booked my officiant long ago and I really like him. However an article was trending today about Universal Life Church officiants not being legal in a few states including NY. Of course my officiant is ULC certified, which means if he marries us and our marriage was ever questioned in court it could be found to be not a legal union. Ugh!
The problem I have now is that our very popular wedding date is 5 months away and we don’t have a legal officiant. The legal options are mayor (ha!), Justices of the Peace who won’t travel (courthouse only weddings), and ministers of legally recognized churches (which we don’t attend). We don’t want a courthouse or church ceremony, we already have our venue.
Anyone have any suggestions for this mess?
