I love that show but there’s a lot of things you can do to save money on and still make your wedding look elegant. Believe me – My husband and I set a limit of 10 G’s for our whole wedding and we did it! We went spendy on our reception location (Marriott), DJ, and our photographer. With our centerpieces, I made many many trips to Jo-Ann’s and Michael’s everytime they had a sale or coupons. I did everything myself along with my Bridesmaid or Best Man, no wedding coordinator just to save the money elsewhere. My advice to you, research and compare prices. Wedding bee helped me A LOT! Especially when it came to decor. I too wanted to glitz and the glam but if you do it right and at the same time save $$$ then that’s even better!

You absolutely can have sparkle and elegance and not feel the need to be over the top…

@ForeverGandJ: glitz and glam with a $10,000 budget? You just described my fantasy wedding. I would love to see pics of how you pulled it off! (and get pointers)

I have sworn off David Tutera, Amazing Wedding Cakes, etc etc. =)

Good luck! You can totally have that gorgeous wedding without breaking the bank. Have you checked anything on Etsy? It’s kind of hit and miss, with a lot of stuff being pretty expensive, but there’s also hidden treasures. I’m not sure what is on the site that deals with diamonds and Pearls, tho.

Shows like this just feed into the wedding industry complex. Listen to yourself! You want to spend MORE money because some celebrity planner says that you can’t have a fabulous wedding on your own. Rent those $10 a piece chairs and serve that $150/plate food! Then after the wedding when all of your guests stop talking about it, you will be in debt.

With a lot of research, planning, networking, and patience, you can have the wedding you want to have.

I didn’t want to spend a shit ton on photography so we found photographers who were looking to update their website/blog/business cards/stationary. Fiance is doing all of that for them and we are getting them for more than half off.

So please don’t feel like you have to spend more money to have the wedding you want.

I totally know what you mean!! I watch that show and immediatly have visions of grandure! The same with watching say yes to the dress… anyway, I’ve found this website

and I’ve bought a few things that are affordable and also “blingy” if you will (I HATE that word too). Check it out though, I found confetti for the tables (watch the video on how they used it for certernieces, it’s awesome) and it was totally affordable! I also bought a 4 foot long chandelier for $50 for the cereomony! Take a look around on their and watch some of their videos. I think you can have a budget and still have a “blinged out” wedding. It’s just going to take some research… and staying away from the TV when David tutera is on. 😉
