OK bees, please please be honest but also gentle – I am about to have a major panic attack. I just picked up my dress from final aterations and I so concerned about the look in my chest area. being a large busted lady, I was always worried that I will look absurd. I honestly feel fine in the dress and also well covered, but do I look … squished? shapeless? awful? i have cried for a few hours. I love the way I see myself in the mirror, but I feel like the photos are just … ALL BOOBS and not in a good way. Honestly, how does it look?

At first I thought you meant boob job regret. 🙂
I think you look pretty (the ruching is very flattering on you), and you do not need to stress! Even if you can’t “fix” your look, it’s not so bad that you look bad.
However, I do have some improvement tips.
Straight strapless styles are generally no bueno on bustier women since it tends to give the uniboob or monoboob look. More importantly, the very top of the dress looks too tight so that it’s smushing your girls downward instead of allowing them to sit up high and proud! This is part of the uniboob problem.
Since this was your final alteration. I would suggest loosening the top of the bust a smidge (very doable if its a corset back) and investing in some amazing lifting/separating undergarments (the secret to battling uniboob is a great bra).

@MlleFabuleux: Thank you. I totally agree about the top being a little too tight – I think it could stand to be a little looser, and the dress is a corset back. THANK GOD! Yes, I think the bra is a real issue here, it is pratically not supportive. It has been the best I have been able to get so far – it’s really not easy at a size 40H to find a strapless bra. The top of the dress is actually not completely straight – it is a modified sweetheart. I feel too exposed and uncomfortable in anything lower than it, though, I really do.

@helena31: Do you have a strapless bra? Is it sewn into the dress? How much longer until the wedding?
I have suggestions, based on your answers.

I like it! It really pulls you in at the right spot, and gives you a beautiful shape! But I do agree that maybe loosening it a smidge with the corset might give a bit more shape to the bust. Buthonestly, I think it’s beautiful how it is! Please don’t be upset – you look AMAZING!

@helena31: I also agree that loosening the corset at the very top!

@mrsem2bee: I am wearing one that is absoutely horrible and non supportive, but the best I have been able to find. It is not sewn into the dress, and the wedding is on June 29.

@BabyBrain: Thanks!! The problem with loosening is … spillage ensues!! But maybe if it’s only a little bit and just at the very top, it will be fine.

@helena31: So much good news from your last comment. Corset backs to the rescue. 🙂 Honestly, if you completely cover your entire bust without proper undergarments, it will actually make your boobs appear bigger (hence your concern that all you notice is your chest). If you let the top a bit so it doesn’t cover everything (not in a scandalous way) and then get the proper undergarments, it should actually balance things out.
More like this (not as suffocating-looking):

ETA: Would a longline bra work?

Don’t cry! You look great! Maybe if you can find a nicer bra your chest will look even better, but even if you look just like this, it will be beautiful!
Honestly, I have seen some unflattering dresses on this website – and when that happens, I choose not to say anything at all if it’s too late for the person to get another dress. However, in your case, I sincerely think that you look good!

@helena31: ^^^^^ That photo shows EXACTLY what I meant! Only a smidge, still tight enough to hold it in….not enough to let it all fly free! hehe. just to sort of let the bust “sit” rather than be held for ransom against the chest! haha. My step-sister has disproportionally large breasts, so these are tips she and I have discovered that work for her. Like I said, don’t stress because you look great anyway!!! xx
