Just a little story to share about my silly dog.
I have a dog, and I have a horse. We rent a house on 5 acres where horse lives, and during the day I frequently walk out to see horse, put him outside, check his water, etc. Dog does not like horses, as he frequently coveys to us by rushing at their fence barking. He’s also scared of them, as conveyed by him running when they get too close. Dog is also a very protective breed and considers it his duty to escort me on my frequent wanders around the property.
The problem is when I am working with horse. I didn’t understand it originally, but apparently what I consider ‘training horse’ dog considers ‘horse viciously threatening beloved owner’. So now when I work with horse, dog leans against me, whines at horse until he builds up the courage to take on this nemesis, and then tries to attack horse.
Horse has been surprisingly good in handling this situations without injuring dog or myself. Dog and I now have some training of our own to work on.
