I don’t see my mother all that often but I went to visit the folks this weekend and got have a “girl’s lunch” with my mom. And she told me something that just made me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. The conversation started off a little rough with “I’m not sure *SO’s name* is really the marrying type. He seems to be taking his sweet time and I’m not really sure he’s ever going to marry you.” Then before I could even start defending SO. “And your father is never going to think anyone is good enough for you but I know you love *SO’s name* and he makes you happy. So if he gets it together and asks you to marry him… just know that I’d be happy to have him as a son in law.”
Awww… I love you mom!
I related this information SO later (the part about him being an acceptable son in law) and got another positive reaction. “You know the only problem I have with marrying you?” What felt like the longest pause ever, “I can’t afford the ring yet. But it’s good to know once I can I already have one of your parent’s blessings.”
