I’m not Catholic, but maybe if you say “It’s been 8 years (or whatever) since my last confession”, the Father will help you out with the prayers! Good luck, and just be thankful you haven’t NEEDED to go more recently because you live such a sin free life. 😉

That’s basically it!  You just say your sins and he does the rest.  Hahaha.  Man, 12 years of Catholic school.  I don’t miss Penance.

I haven’t been in a long long time but I believe it is the Act of Contrition.

“My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.”

I went to my first one back in April (I converted).  The priest walked me through everything – just ask.  🙂

Yup all you need to know besides that is the act of contrition at the end! You can just print/write it out and read it bc he ca’t see you anyway! Good job getting clean!

As long as you know the Act of Contrition, the Priest will guide you from there.  We used to have copies of it around…or you can make a cheat sheet. If they know it’s been awhile, they’ll help you out, I’m sure 🙂

I have been meaning to go to confession. But I keep stalling for this very reason! my grandmother said if i go in and just say the first part an dlet him know I havent been in a long time he will help me out. But I feel like such a re re going in there like uhhhhh father I sinned, help me? lol

Im going to go on saturday. But im curious as to how I am supposed to go over 10 years of sins. its a lot of sins Embarassed so should I just be like “i did em all. except murder. and stealing. But im pretty sure I covered all the bases of sinning”. that probably wont go over well and my penance is gonna be like “you need to live in a convent for like ten years to make up for your sins. now get out.”. smh…. now im nervous too!!!! Im going to follow your thread to see what people suggest!

I’m actually going tonight! and it’s been like 5 years. I’ve been really embarassed about it and feel like a HORRIBLE Catholic.. and now I’m SO nervous. But I know how I feel afterward and SO ready for that… I like to look up guides for confession online to help me center myself and have a really good confession… I found this one last night and it helped me out A LOT!

Also every church I’ve been in had a little sticky or placard in the booth with the act of contritionn. But in my experience I haven’t even had to say it every time! Good luck! 😀

I would spend some time searching your heart for things you have done that make you feel guilty and then use those. Its not about quoting the 10 commandments, its about relieving the burden on your soul (at least that is how I look at it).

If I were to go to confession right now, I would probably confess to gossiping and greed (both work issues) since that is what is currently weighing on my mind.

I have only been two or three times… how terrible is that? I went for my first recconciliation of course, confirmation and one other time our CCE had it set up for us to go. So it’s been about 10 years! I’ve never even been in the booth. Every time we went it was organized for all the kids to go through, so it was just a few priests spread throughout the room with a chair set up and you waited outside the room for one of the priests to be availalbe.

To be honest, the thought of confession has always made me really anxious… but I guess no one looks forward to it.
