I don’t know why, but for some reason i can not wrap my head around table runners…and yes, i know, this is prob a sign that i should just give in a buy table runners, but i can’t seem to find any I love.
I want Burlap table runners. I just can’t figure out what sizes i need. Should they dangle? How wide should they be? Is there some easy way to figure that out?
I have 11 banquet tables that are 8′ x 30″
and 8 square tables that are 60″ x 60″. I was thinking long table runners for the banquet tables and then large square ones for the square tables. I would also love extra burlap for signs.
I would love some help estimating how much burlap I should purchase! As well as the lengths I should make them for my tables. For some reason, all my other DIY projects are coming together rather painlessly and easyily. But not these darn table runners!
and of course…if you have them for sale, let me know 😀

It’s really a matter of preference for how long they should be, but as far as ordering, I’d order rolls of burlap in your desired widths so that you’re only dealing with two unfinished edges instead of four (unless you want all the edges unfinished). You can find rolls of assorted lengths online en masse. If you’re not concerned with unfinished edges, you can get large burlap squares on the cheap from garden supply stores. I think they are 90″ squares and could then be easily cut down to fit your needs.
My thought for sizing would be an overhang of about a foot on either end for the long tables, so 10ft strips of burlap probably about 3 feet wide. For the square tables, you just need to determine how much of the table you want to cover. Are you just trying to accent the centerpieces or do you want them to cover most of the table? If just the centerpieces, then a 2ft square should be sufficient. If more of the table, then just work out from there.

Yea i know i could just buy them…but i keep coming back to it being cheaper to make them. I’ve found large bulk burlap for 1.50 per yard and 40″ wide. And i’m wanting my table runners about 10″ wide i think…so can get three table runners out of every 4 yards (if i’m doing my math right). So the price is is super cheap….
It is just the work and such that i’m figuring out if it is worth it…
plus, i’m not to good a sewwing or cutting (but my FI’s mom is)
