Don’t see why there’s so much hate in this thread. I really hated the ring that my H picked out, but I knew it was the best he could do at the time. Now that we have some extra money, I went to him last week, showed him what I wanted, and asked if he would buy it. He ordered it the very next day because he just wanted to make me happy 🙂

I’d just approach it casually with you husband and tell him what you want why you want it. Then listen to his thoughts and come to a solution.

they are cheaper because they aren’t diamonds- they are an alternative sparkly white stone. Do some searching you will see LOTS of posts about them. Here is mine!

@alyssa.christine1:  There are a gazillion threads on the bee about moissys. Just search for ‘moissanite’ or ‘moissy’ or browse through the ring boards. I’m sure some of the other ladies can give you more info. I love my diamond, but if my ring was ever lost or stolen or something (God forbid) I would probably go with a moissy to replace it.

@alyssa.christine1:  yea they aren’t for everyone 🙂 I think in this economy it just scares people to hear things like this but you know what’s best for you and for your husband and that’s all that matters. You seem to know he is going to be okay with it so just go for it!

I would say “so uhh I was just PASSING through the jewelers and saw this fabulous stone that caught my eye and the jeweler offered us a special offer so I thought maybe we could go check it out together!”

@alyssa.christine1:  You should seriously consider moissanite. I was planning to get a large diamond to replace the one I lost, but found moissanite before we bought it. In my opinion, moissanite is every bit as beautiful as a diamond and, I can’t tell any difference between the two in similar sizes (I’ve compared them side by side). If you are already looking at J color diamonds with inclusions, the moissanite will be a step up. A 1.5ct round moissanite is rated as H color (other cuts are J color, so that’s a draw), and moissanites do not have inclusions.

We had the money for the same size diamond (without financing), but it just didn’t make sense (to us) to spend all that extra money when no one would know the difference. I would never consider spending the cost of a diamond if it meant going into debt.No one IRL will ever now the difference, so that isn’t a concern. If you don’t believe me, read all the threads here and on betterthandiamond.com where many people mention jewelers being fooled.

I think this is an excellent way for you to get the upgrade you want without breaking the bank and seriously straining your new marriage. Also, if I were him, I would be much more willing to agree to the moissanite because it is so much more affordable. I don’t see anything wrong with wanting an upgrade, and it is always best to be honest with your partner. He would probably be a lot more upset if he finds out you’ve been feeling this way for a long time later on. Going into debt for jewelry is never ok in my book. Having expensive taste is one thing, being irresponsible is another. The moissanite would allow you to get everything you are wanting for a reasonable price.

Bullying? Give me a break. I thought the BJ comment deserved an award.

OP, you sound very entitled. My husband would have had a heart attack if I insisted that he upgrade my ring and drop thousands of dollars more just DAYS after our wedding. Save the upgrade for an anniversary if its that important to you. OR save the money yourself and pay for your own upgrade.

ETA: Saw your update. Guess you got what you wanted.
