boo to her and her procreation (j/k…. mostly)! does she have any other suggestions besides her assistant? i have no idea what the avg photo rate is in sacramento, but at least she told you right away so you can budget? i am guessing it will be more than $600?

bummer though 🙁

OMG I’m sorry this is happening, that is terrible. Is there anyway you can talk to her and ask her to maybe train her assistant more?  I’m sure you can word it in a kind way that says you’d rather have her photos.

If your date on your profile is correct it seems like you still have pleny of time to find a new photographer, I know it sucks but don’t let it drag you down!

I’m at the other end of the state and paying $1,000 for everything from my photog but he’s still in school.  Most people I contacted started at 1K to 3K just to show up for the day and charge extra for everything else.

I suggest checking out the vendor reviews here on WB and looking through the photogs websites to determine who’s style you like and dislike.  After that check their site for pricing or contact them for more info.  Keep in mind that you have plenty of time to find someone.

Good luck!

IMO she should either refund your deposit or substitute a photographer of equal/similar talent.  Perhaps the assistant can do the photography but your main photographer can do the editing?

I’ve seen this happen before a few times.  Hopefully this photographer takes good care of you.  This is one of the risks going with a young female photographer in their “baby making” years.

This made me laugh because I was totally just thinking, “Thank goodness my photographer’s a man!” I’m sorry this is happening–I know you still have a lot of time but that was quite a deal you were getting! I hope it all works out for the best 🙂

Sad! But at least you know now? Good luck with the search for a replacement!

Well if you are looking for a replacement I can recommend my photographer, Aimee Fredy who owns White Daisy Photography. she isn’t $600 but she is amazing and less expensive than most in the area!

If you’re going with the assistant, and you’re worried about not getting good shots, then make a board on Pinterest of wedding photos you love, and you can send it to her a week or two before the wedding so she knows what photos are must-takes for you and your FI!

@Scc6a:  lol, I just thought the same thing as well!  Glad ours is a man after reading stories of this happening on here!  OP, time is on your side… take some time to research and negotiate with some photographers in your area.  Good luck, and sorry to hear this happened to you!!  I’d be devastated if something happened to our photographer as well.

@MsVoyageur:  It’s a nice thought, but pinning images you like doesn’t mean your photographer can execute those images.

To the OP, it sucks. Trust me, my biggest fear and most difficult struggle is deciding when to have kids – and how to plan getting pregnant. As a wedding photographer, there really is no good time. I know your photographer didn’t do it to maliciously mess up your wedding. I would just start researching now to find a new photographer. Talk to your photographer and let her know your concerns about her second shooter and see where she suggest you go from there.

Not sure what kind of style you’re looking for, but I can recommend a few somewhat local people (I’m in Sonoma County).  They are both photographers I’ve worked with in the past, and highly recommend their work:

@Mrs.Bitt:  “I’m going to take a chance with the assistant and hope she will be able to do the important photos for me.”

YIKES x10.

It’s your wedding.  You’re going to take a chance?

This photographer should be refunding you, and you should take that money and hire another photographer!

NEVER SETTLE.  You have one chance to get good photos from your wedding.
