@MissFireFlower:  Your wedding is May 5, and you have received ALL of your responses already?

I hate to say this, but have mismatched chairs?

Chairs for your reception, or for your ceremony? Depending on ceremony length, it might not be unforgivable to ask your friends to stand for the duration (although I don’t necessarily think it’s the most polite way to go, I wouldn’t be offended if a friend had a wedding ceremony where I stood for 20 minutes). Or rent different chairs from somewhere else.

ETA – Wait, if you only have 45 chairs and 80 guests, that’s not 20 standing, it’s 35…

Oh gosh, this is my biggest fear! Our reception space holds 160, and we invited 210… My stepmom is insistant that 50% of people will decline and that there is no reason to be stressed, so she wouldn’t take anyone off her list, which is a huuuuge majority of our guests. I do a little happy dance every time we get a no response! I feel a little bad about it, but I need some people to not show up! So far we have we have 50 people coming and 15 not. Just hoping this trend continues!!

I know that extra guests adds to the cost and finding more chairs isn’t ideal, but at least people are excited for your wedding!! :] Is there any way you could maybe rent matching chairs from another company? They might be a little more expensive, but maybe if you only need 20 more it won’t be a huge price increase? Hopefully you will find a great solution! :]

@MissFireFlower:  Wow. Impressive, especially given how many brides have to call guests a week after the deadline to find out if they’re coming.

@MissFireFlower:  Do you have 20 young friends/relatives who might be amenable to standing if you ask nicely? I’m certain other bees will say this is awful, but I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it. Alternatively, some weddings have no seating at all, except for the elderly/those who couldn’t comfortable stand for a short ceremony, so it’s clearly done sometimes.

ETA (I really keep having after-thoughts) – I feel like the standing option only works if it’s outside for some reason (I think I’ve only ever seen it done in ‘rustic’ or garden weddings), and if it’s not super hot outside.

Geez that’s crazy!! Hmm well I don’t really have any other suggestions… Is fruitwood the color you are renting, or was that the only other option they had? If it’s all they had, maybe you could switch to all fruitwood chairs? Or have like the “reserved” seating be the fruitwood color? I’m not renting chairs so I’m afraid I’m not much help… Although I’m a little jealous you’re getting Chiavari chairs, soo pretty!
