As long as your travel arrangements are booked with the ID he’ll be using for travel (ie, passport for international travel), it’s fine. You only use one form of ID to travel/board airplanes/etc so as long as he books with the name he has on his travel documents, it’s no big deal whatsoever. Half my government ID has neither of my middle names, some has one middle name, and my passport has both – it doesn’t matter at all.

He could change it to be on the safe side, but what ID are you talking about?  Unless it’s his birth certificate that only had a middle initial I wouldn’t worry too much.  Pretty much anytime I’ve had to show my passport, that’s the only ID I’ve been asked to provide.

I cannot imagine that it would matter that his middle name isn’t spelled out on his DL / ID – as long as it isn’t a different initial than his name, there’s no way anyone would care.  I’m sure you could buy the ticket as John E. Doe, John Doe, or John Edward Doe.

Oh, I would still think it’s not an issue, although if you can change the name on his tickets, you might want to. It often depends on the mood of whoever is checking the ID. I book my tickets only with first name and last name and travel with my passport with both middle names, and it’s never caused any kind of issue.

I doubt there’d be any issue since it’s kind of just common sense, but it may be a good idea to either have him change his ID or bring his birth certificate just to be on the safe side.

No way, that should not be an issue, as long as the middle initial matches the full middle name. My old driver’s license (pre-marriage) had just a middle initial while my passport had my full name, and I never had an issue. It would be best if the ticket matches the passport exactly, but I really doubt you will have a problem.

ETA: Like I said I don’t think this will matter at all, but is there even time to get a new license anyway? In my state, you apply for a new ID, they take your old one and give you a temp (slip of paper with no picture) and mail you the new ID and it could take 2 weeks. So depending on your state, you may not get it in time for you honeymoon (assuming you are going right after your wedding)

Drivers’ licenses in my state as a rule don’t list full middle names. They didn’t even let me have the option. I doubt they’ll question a middle initial vs middle name on the docs. When I book tickets through my workplace they always spell my name with my middle initials attached to my first name (e.g. JaneDD Doe). Never had a problem. To be sure, just take both his passport and drivers’ license and you should be fine.

@Willow1991:

Hm…I’m getting worried, too now. I’d better go check my fiance’s passport. Boy that would be a buzzkill at the airport…

A. is a short form of Adam.  It will not matter at all.  Don’t waste your time or energy changing the documents or tickets.

If the tickets said Charlie B Brown you may have a problem, but a matching initial no way.

My documents are the same, and I’ve traveled internationally several times without an issue. In fact, I don’t know anyone with a full middle name on his/her driver’s license (though I’m sure they’re out there, it’s just not expected). Generally, you only have to show one ID unless there’s some other issue, so this probably won’t even come up.
ETA: I just flew last week with my ticket in my married name, and my driver’s license still says my maiden name. It wasn’t even an issue (brought my marriage license), so this certainly won’t be.

Oh, and another thing: I went on a trip this summer about a month after my wedding, and while my name and driver’s license was changed, my ticket (which was booked months before the wedding) was in my maiden name since I knew it was iffy about whether I would have all the paperwork done yet. I called the airline to see if they could change the last name on the ticket, and they said they couldn’t and to use a form of ID that still had my maiden name. So I used my passport, which I hadn’t switched over yet, but my driver’s license had a different last name on it. As long as the ticket matched some form of ID and the initial matches the middle name on the passport, I think it’s fine.
