Aw, I’m sorry! Have you blocked out hotel rooms for Out of Town guests? I’d notify them ASAP to reserve their rooms with a big event like that so close.

And maybe you can just put something cute in your programs, like *we love you all for sharing our big day, and we love the Canucks for sharing our day too. Updates will be provided as the score is update* Haha. If ya can’t beat em, join em? I hope it all turns out, and I’m sure people will try to keep any grumbles to themselves.

Oh you poor thing! Yes, this sucks. But I think if you can’t fight it, go with it. I would actually suggest arranging to have a TV there, maybe off to the side or in a room adjoining, and letting people know you are going to have the tv there, that way they will come, and when the game is over, they can dance the night away with you.

I get that people want to see it but cant they DVR it and check the score on a cell phone or something, I guess I dont get it since hockey isnt as big here but it just seems like sucking it up for one night and catching it later on dvr wouldnt kill anyone

@TealaB: Holy moly girl, you just can’t win. I think you need a Canuck garter to appease the hockeygods, ’cause they’re messing with you!

Perhaps since you are a week out you are thinking people care more about hockey than they do. Everyone likes to be proud of their home team, but surely your family and friends would rather watch your wedding, than a hockey game? About people being late, at the end of the ceremony, maybe have your officiant let everyone know that while we all want to watch the beginning of the game there isn’t time ?

I went to a wedding last year where there was a big hockey game on. The bride and groom love hockey (he even got her a jersey with her new name on it and she wore it over her wedding dress at the end of the night) so it worked out that as the reception was dying down they continued drinking with their close friends in the venue bar and watched the game. But until the bride and groom went to watch it nobody else did. Everybody has smart phones now, they’ll just be checking the scores a lot but honestly, somebody is always going to be checking their smartphone during your wedding. Whether it’s text/emails/facebook or hockey scores you probably won’t even notice. There will probably be pictures of your wedding posted on facebook before it’s even over.

Haha this happened to me – We are huuuuuge UF Gator fans (DH and I included, not to mention half our wedding guests and the chef friend who kindly catered our wedding) and the UF-Bama game (the last two defending National Champions) was on during our wedding. We bleed orange and blue and never miss a game. And you know what? People lived ๐Ÿ™‚ I heard a lot of (funny) whining before the wedding, but when we got there, no one even mentioned the game to me. They are going to have a great time at your wedding and they’ll get over missing the game! Plus, most people have smartphones where they can get the game updates without even needing to call attention to it via the MC. No worries!

I am originally from Toronto – so I understand the crazy hockey fans!!!

I wouldn’t worry about it too much people want to be there on your day with you for your once in a life time moment. However, I would play it up a bit and get your DJ to keep track of the score and announce it throughout the wedding. This will prevent people from wanting to leave to check the score ya know!

And on another note you are going to be having so much fun you won’t even notice if there is a group of people that would rather be watching the game ๐Ÿ˜‰

Try not to stress about it too much!

And that’s why I scheduled my wedding for the beginning of hockey season. ๐Ÿ˜‰  Sorry you’re going through this though.  I know how important hockey is to me.  I about cried because I missed the Flyers win against the Sabres the other night because of work.
