Man, I don’t know what has gotten into me lately but this past week I’ve been really standing of for myself. I’m getting kinda fiesty. I would like to think I’m meek and gentle person (and generally try to be) but lately I’m just..I don’t know.
So in my Creative Writing class we are divided up into groups. There is also a man that is not in our group that we talk to a lot as he is pretty funny. For our more recent poems he wrote about a “jelly bean scene” and how there are stereotypes in society. It said something along the lines of “Blue is my best friend, he is cool. I suggest you avoid the Blacks.” While that may seem like a racist statement on it’s on (the last line) when our group considered the first line. We knew it was a harsh line but it wasn’t meant to be so much offensive as it was trying to open the eyes of readers.
Today, he got his critiques back. One said “Wth Bob*!?!? The blacks, really”–Signed Group Four. and that was it. Nothing else. I got so mad I stood up in the class and said “You know that wasn’t mean to be a racist statement so before we all go kicking Bob’s ass maybe we should realize it was meant to be stereotypical.” This girl int he class said to me “What in the world are you talking about?!?!?!” and I just ignored her. I mean, really. Don’t be so mean and I won’t have to freak on you, lady!
Any funny moments of you snapping at someone?
