Engaged since 12/31/13 and we’ve seen 6 places so far!
The city is looking to be out of our budget, but I have a hard time completely letting it go.
We are seeing 4 places Thursday and I’ve got another 3 lined up for Friday to preview and then Fiance and I can go back if I think they’re worth it.
So far we’ve seen:
Bridgeport Art Center
Zhou B Loft
Roosevelt University Library
And next up:
The Hyatt Lodge
The Morton Arboretum
The Wilder Mansion
City View Lofts-I’m crossing my fingers on this one!
Not listed…the million and one venues I’ve already emailed back and forth! I will be so happy when we finally have picked a place!

@girlygirl885: I’ve been engaged since 10/19/2013 and we haven’t been able to look at any venues. 🙁
Let me know how your search goes!

@girlygirl885: My sister had her reception at Hyatt Lodge- it was beautiful!!!
We were going to have our ceremony at morton aboretum ( we didn’t want the reception there- the minimum was too high for us) and its gorgeous and you can arrange for tram rides for the guests!
Also the Esplanade was a very cool room ( I looked at it with my sister) however it is MASSIVE. Like, could fit 300 people easily massive. They also ( last fall) were doing construction right across the lake so it ruined the view a bit, I hope they are done now!
Wilder mansion has a very pretty garden you can get married in, but the only think I didnt like about it is that if you have more than 80 or so people you have to have poeple seating in two different rooms
I would reccomend the Oak Brook Bath and Tennis club too if you haven’t looked into it?
If you have any questions about some of the places feel free to ask- during my search and my sisters wedding planning – I feel like I have seen every venue in the Chicago suburbs haha

@girlygirl885: All of these venues have a different “feel” to them.
What are you really looking for in a venue? Good luck with your search!

I just started making some appointments for my venues. So far we have appointments for:
Westin in Itasca
I am excited to check those out in the next couple of weeks!

I just passed this mansion (Driehaus Museum) in the loop the other day – it’s gorgeous and they’re renting it out for weekend weddings now, I hear. Maybe a place to look?

Ahhh I absolutely hated venue hunting. It was easily my least favorite part of planning. If you are still stuck on a downtown venue, have you tried looking at Pazzo’s I think they’re one of the more affordable options.
We searched high and low before settling on the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. But I promise once you decide, planning becomes fun!

@Boxerlover24: I wish I had a sister like you 😀 My mom works graveyard shift so it’s almost impossible for her to come venue searching with me. DF’s work doesn’t really “allow” for days off, Maid/Matron of Honor is busy with nursing school, working 2 jobs, etc so I don’t want to ask her.
Do you have any venue suggestions near Wheeling, IL? I like how Wilder Mansion looks too but the splitting up the guests is a little iffy for me. That’s why I passed on the Redfield Estate — my cousin had her wedding there and half of her guests didn’t even see what was going on 🙁

@vivalasylvia: 🙂 That stinks about not having a lot of people to go 🙁 can you make any appts in the early AM for your mom to be able to go? I honestly only went with my Fiance to a few, other times just my mom/ mil…Its almost better with just a few people!
Have you looked at Independence Grove in Libertyville? I really liked it there! Whats your budget?

@vivalasylvia: Have you tried looking at the Kenilworth Club? It is literally right down the street from the lakefront, so great for pictures. It’s not super far from Wheeling and is really flexible with caterers and bringing in your own alcohol.

@bellaluna290: I really wanted a loft look..but now I’m going for holds 200 people, has good food and will cost less than $20,000 🙂
I’m learning to be more flexible and maybe give up my dream but still find something beautiful.

@calendula: Thank you! We are definitely open to suggestions!

@vivalasylvia: It is difficult to coordinate with schedules. Some I’m going to by myself and then I’ll bring Fiance back or send him on his own. Maybe you can look at some on your own to narrow down your options and then go back with someone.

@Boxerlover24: We are inviting 240-250, so I think a bigger space would be helpful.
I really wanted the Arboretum in the winter for their light display, but they arent even doing December weddings in the Ginkgo room this year. Fiance still wants to see the space and maybe we can go with January instead.

@girlygirl885: You get a cheaper rate for winter weddings at the aboretum too so I would def check it out!
With 240-250 then Esplanade Lakes would be a great choice because it is a really big, gorgeous space! I really liked it for mine but we are only having 150 people so it was too big haha and we would never meet the minimum with that amount of people.
Oak Brook bath and tennis would be too small, but Hyatt lodge might work ( might be a little small for that amount of people though, my sister had about 200 and the room was pretty full)
