Well… we tried.
The venue we were ready to sign with just kept changing things, and adding things on… first, the (required) caterer switched and the costs went up. Hors d’oeuvres went from being included to $25 extra pp. Suddenly, all the rental costs were on us even though it was discussed they’d be included. Then, they declined to modify the contract for us (nothing big, just write in what you said you’d provide!). All responses and paperwork took a week longer to be emailed to us than was said (or never got to us at all), and we just can’t be in denial anymore about these extra things costing us time & money!
So we broke up with our ideal venue before it even began.
It was like finding out your crush was kind of a jerk and, because you liked him so much, you let it slide for a little too long.
We’ve been trying to scramble to find a new venue for both ceremony and reception, but since we wanted to get married in September this year it’s getting hard (and life only picks up pace in the meantime!).
We decided that if we can’t find something by the end of the month, the wedding will need to be pushed back a few months, or to next year. Mainly to avoid going crazy at the last minute over everything.
It’s OK, but we’re still a little bit heartbroken.
It’s not the worst thing that could happen to us, but it is terribly frustrating in the meantime!
I just wanted to vent a tiny bit; hoping for some positive vibes on here, and maybe a little encouragment.

Sorry to hear that this happened! 🙁 You did the right thing though by walking away, who knows what could have been changed or charged extra for later.
I hope you find a new location and are able to make things go smoother. *hugs!*

+1 don’t worry you’ll find somewhere wondeful!!

Booo, that sucks! I hope you find something–maybe some NJ-area bees can help you out?
I’m getting frustrated with our reception venue, so I definitely know what that’s like. :

That’s crazy! I’m so sorry this happened to you, but there are TONS of places in NJ to get married. You’ll find something just as wonderful, if not better!

I’m glad you decided not to use that place, that’s just ridiculous with all the changes. I’m sure you’ll find something. If you don’t find something by the end of the month, and you have to move the date, these things usually happen for a good reason, like a better place with less stress!

You guys are going to be ok. It will all work out

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this. I can imagine it’s so disappointing. But, you guys are smart for pulling out as things continue to become more sketchy. Yes, you’re not going to be in your imagined dream venue; however, there are plenty of other beautiful places to get married and your checkbook and sanity will thank you! Good luck!!

That stinks but I’m sure you’ll find a better location that treats you honestly and professionally.
