Well, the first wedding issue has popped up with less than 3 months to go. Our officiant cancelled today – his brother is having heart surgery the day before our wedding so obviously he needs to be with him. Totally understandable, I’m not mad or anything… but oh crap! He was an awesome officiant who had a great ceremony planned and was also going to bring his sound system for the ceremony. So now we have to rush to find a new guy, plan a new ceremony and figure out the music.
Also… he didn’t mention anything about refunding us in his cancellation email, so now I have to reply all awkwardly and ask for that. I hate doing things like that!
Hopefully this is the only thing that goes wrong!

@Pinkmoon: ugh! I hope you can figure it out soon!

@Pinkmoon: I’m sorry you have to deal with this.
I would email him, telling him that you “understand your desire to be with your brother. We wish him well with his surgey. You can refund our deposit to this address by check (or, if you have it by email transfer to your email addess.)”

@julies1949: Thanks – I wrote pretty much exactly that. He did give us a recommendation of another guy he knows so I emailed him and hopefully he will be a good replacement!

Kudos to you for actually being understanding towards the officiant since it’s a good reason to cancel! 🙂 Good luck finding a new officiant!

I spoke to the new guy (that was recommended by our former officiant) and we are meeting him on Sunday. He sounds super nice on the phone, and if he’s anything like his friend I think we will be all set!
