So sad!  Is your venue on the water?

I live in Gulf Shores about 80 miles west of Destin and the oil is here now! So I would be worried, especially if any kind of tropical dtorm gets in the gulf! Check with your vendors and see what they say!

Under the circumstances, you vendors should be willing to refund you your deposits, so you can make other arrangements.

I would really encourage you not to back out unless you absolutely have to. The wedding is still a little ways off (three months) so it is hard to predict how bad it could be. But, really, the areas affected by the oil spill really need our support. No one can ask you to curtail your wedding dreams for this, I would just gently encourage you to hold out and be flexible.

I agree with monitajb please dont back out until you have too! This area is already struggling so bad we don’t need the oil to run off all of our business during our busy season!

I would start making some alternative “tentative” plans.  Maybe not something as lavish but definitely will make you and your fiance happy!

Oil is not the only thing to worry about with a Septemeber Gulf of Mexico wedding, that is the peak month of hurricane season! I would wait it out a little longer and just see if the oil makes it that far! As of now they don’t even have Destin on the list of places it is going to be in the next few weeks! So you still have some time!

I am also getting married in Destin.  My wedding is June 26th, so I completely understand how you are feeling.  I’m at a loss, and plan on just waiting it out to see what happens.  When is your wedding date?

I am getting married Sept 25, and we wer told by all that we would be refunded.  Well one vendor said all but the initial deposit.  That unfortunate. I was determined to have it there regardless—the thing is when the tar balls come up on the beaches, they apparently have been able to take car of it, so the beaches are clear.  And I am having a beach wedding.  Go ahead!
