Yay!  Good for you for having a plan.  One tip I’m sure everyone else will tell you as well – take it slowly and make sure you enjoy the process or you won’t be able to stick with it longterm.  That’s the only advice I have – being healthy and fit is mostly a lifestyle choice more than anything else, all other things taken into consideration, of course.  Good luck to you!

I think it sounds awesome!! One thing I noticed during my weightloss (I started 2 1/2 years ago, lost a little over 50lbs in the first 1 1/2 and am just maintaining now) that if you overdo it, you’re going to get sick of it REAL quick. So if you notice yourself starting to dread working out, maybe cut it back to 4 days a week.. and having a gym buddy helps A LOT, makes those 30 mins fly by! Especially if you can gab about wedding stuff πŸ™‚

It sounds like you are on the right track– just remember weight loss comes more from diet than exercise. Even though the treadmill claims I burned 300 calories, it does not mean I can eat a snickers and be calorie negative. That calorie count is not based on your height, gender, or metabolism.

My two secrets of success are embarassment and mixing it up. I don’t want to embarass myself by not being able to keep up with my Fiance or the hot girls at the gym. I use the fear of embarassment as will power to chase my Fiance up the hill a lot faster than I ever would if I was running alone or will stay on the treadmill until the girl next to me is done. It is the only way I can get myself to run. If you can find a friend you can be competitive with, it is awesome motivation.

I also like to mix it up (this saves on laundry too)– I do PM strength training workouts on Monday and Wednesday nights, run on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, and then do fun workouts with Fiance on the weekend. By having different routines and working out at different times, I see more results.

Do you have a strength training regimen? If not, I would highly recommend ‘The New Rules for Lifting for Women’.

I learned so much by reading this book. The biggest lesson was that lifting heavy weight does not bulk you up, it just shreds the fat faster. Lifting heavy weight makes you see results very quickly and it gets addictive! It’s exciting to go up in weight every workout. It gives you a goal to work toward. The book has a comprehensive workout plan takes 6 months to complete.

As for cardio, have you read up on interval training? I have learned that this is absolutely the best way to get a cardio workout. Basically, you sprint for 30 secs, walk for 30 secs, sprint for 30 secs, etc..

A really good source of info on both strength training and high interval training can be found on Dr. Mercola’s website http://www.mercola.com

I follow his diet advice too. It may seem a little radical but I have had incredible results. I eat no sugar or grains and opt for full fat products. Make sure you are having protein no more than 20 minutes after a workout. Find a protein powder without sugar and bring a shake to the gym with you. Eat your carbs for breakfast and then for the rest of the day, your only carb source should be from non-starchy vegetables.
