Okay girls maybe I’m just dense. Or uncoordinated. Or dumb? I cannot for the life of me figure out a convenient way to shave my legs. We moved into a (wonderful) new house in January and I love it. But it was designed by a man– of this I am certain.
In our master bath the shower and tub are separate… so there is the standing shower with door and then a separate jacuzzi tub. In the shower, there is no bench, no ledge, nada. Just 4 walls and floor. And it isn’t very big. So I can’t figure out how to shave my legs IN the shower. There is nothing to rest my leg on, I can’t just hold my leg up in the air and simultaneously shave without falling over (i’ve tried). I can’t bend down far enough to shave without the water washing the shaving cream off. UGH. So in order to shave my legs I have to take a shower, then go sit on the edge of the tub and shave my legs separately then splash water on my legs from the tub to rinse them off.
Okay not the end of the world… but come on it is a pain in the ass. Am I missing something here? How do you shave your legs if you have a stand-up shower? Do you just not do it in the shower? Or am I missing a really obvious solution.
Also: I believe that all house designs should be approved by a woman! lol

Haha I feel your pain.
What about investing in one of those detachable shower heads? Then you could just bend down without having to worry about the shaving cream washing off.
Other than that, I find that adjusting the shower head so that the water flows away from me helps.

Hmm.. mabey you could bring in like a shower seat?? That way you have a way to rest your legs. I know what a pain it is not to have a place to sit at!

lol, sorry for laughing, but I could totally visualize that. We have a standup shower, but we have a bench type ledge to balance with. The only suggestion that I have for you is to completely redo the bathroom. There are companies that will gut the tub and shower and install new ones that are functional for you. In a prior life without the bench type thing, I would put my leg up on the sink to balance and shave my legs, so I could rinse while doing it, then I would take my shower.

I agree with your last thought. everything should be ultimately approved by a woman. When I had a shower stall i would just put my foot on the wall high enough that I could reach every part without having everything wash off under the water. Also you can turn the shower head towards one wall and bend down so the water won’t hit you but will be hitting the wall instead.
Also, the sell little steps you can put in your shover for this specific purpose. (I think I’ve seen them in SkyMall)

Usually what I did was put my foot against a wall and rest against the opposite wall. We had the same tiny shower (and no tub at all in the master bath).

Yes the Shaving Pedestal in SkyMall! God I love Sky Mall… all kinds of crap that you would never use or have to have…

@Ms. Caniche: I was going to say they should’ve made something for you rest your foot on.
I remember going into a few adult stores that they also have these ledges/ handles that you can hold on to. I haven’t used them, but they looked interesting.

I have the same problem. I point the shower head away from me and just sit down on the shower floor to shave. Plus, it’s motivation to keep the shower floor clean…

Haha I had this problem at my old apartment for 3 years and never figured out a great solution. I had no idea they made something for this!

i just sit on the floor. i’m the one who cleans it, so i know it’s clean.

I did the same as MissAsB–lean my back against one wall, and wedge my leg up so my foot was pressing against another wall. In big showers, this is slightly more complicated as it requires a diagonal positioning, but in small showers (NYC apartment, anyone?), this was pretty easy since it meant I could use two opposite walls of the shower. Now I live in a house with a bath…but I’m trying not to get too used to it, cause it’s still a rental and we might downsize after the wedding!

3 years in the dorms during college…no tub, just a shower stall. I bought a venus razor. They have the shaving cream around the blades. It’s not quite as close a shave but, all I had to do was reach down and shave up. So much easier. And it wasn’t a problem dealing with the water or shaving cream because it was all compact. I hope this helps!

OH the joys of a stall shower! Fiance and I have 2 full bathrooms and the deal was I get the bigger bathroom, but he gets the one with the tub. It takes a while, but you’ll master it eventually lol.
No matter what I always move the shower head out of the way. Then most of the time for a quick shave I just bend over… but when I need to shave really good (or if I’m just feeling lazy) I just sit down on the shower floor! I’m the only one who uses the shower and it is clean so I feel comfortable doing it.
When I first read this I was like OMG I don’t want to say what I do, it’s embarrassing! But I was happy to read I’m not the only one who sits down to shave lol
