If you don’t have to pay rent, I’d wait until October.  October isn’t that far away (only 7 months!).  I know it will feel like a lifetime, but in the same token, once it comes you’ll probably end up wondering how it went by so fast.  You’ll have the time to get things done the right way and the way that you want it without having to throw something together.

I misread your post. You can live with them rent free until you get married, but once you are you have to pay them? And why aren’t you on their insurance now, like Kat said?

I think option A sounds best…unless you really need the benefits now. I agree that the second ceremony won’t be as meaningful, and this way you have time to save for the honeymoon and other things that you might not be able to afford if you bump up the wedding. Good luck 🙂

@cyndistar3: You live with your parents right? They would make you pay rent if you got married, but not pay rent if you don’t?

Also, since you are still a minor, can’t you be on your parents’ health insurance?

@cyndistar3:Thinking over your options is not a bad idea. You don’t really explain why you would want to get married this summer as opposed to this fall. Since you aren’t saying married military housing is an option, and you seem to want the wedding, then I vote for waiting until October. Seven months is not that long and will probably be worth it in the long run 🙂

@cyndistar3: I’d be more worried about the health insurance than anything else. I don’t know if your father will, but  he should be able to add you to his health care plan especially since you are living with him/a dependent.

I suppose another option is to get legally married without your dad knowing so you have health insurance and a housing stipend yet continue to live rent free and save the stipend for the wedding (ok… that’s not really a good idea).

Did you ever find a dress and have you gotten anything for your wedding yet?

I vote for C because I think it’s important for you to get on health insurance as soon as you can. Could you postpone the honeymoon till October, when you’ll have more time?

Option C sounds good – can you take a honeymoon later in the year?

@cyndistar3: Well if it isn’t even guaranteed he’ll get time off after training, then I think you should get married sooner rather than later.

What if he has to go off overseas and is not allotted time back to get married.

I’d get married sooner and then take the honeymoon if he gets to come back in the fall.

I vote option C as well. With military BAH, you get to keep whatever you have left over from paying rent so that would give you some extra money to live on as well.

Here’s a BAH calculator so you can see how  much you would get. Keep in mind, he will also get BAS (which is for groceries, ours is about $300 a month)

Plus, you never know how much leave they’ll let him take after training. They can tell you one thing and then do something totally different.
