I am in the same boat or working my way out of it.  Right after we got engaged in Dec 2008 we went to Mexico, I packed my suitcase with all my cute shorts and tanks but when I got there realized I only fit like three things I brought.  Looking at photos of myself just made me cry and I vowed I wasn’t going to be a “fat bride”  so far I’ve lost 65lbs.  I was about 210 at 5’2.  I’ve done it with cutting out the junk food and eat low carb {only whole good carbs} and low fat. I have 15

I work from home so i’ve been making a ton of frozen fruit smoothies and replacing meals with them.  I’m a total foodie {so is my FH and biz partner} and an emo eater. We are wedding photogs so I spend A LOT of time sitting at my computer and used to do alot of late night snacking which now If I feel I need one I grab a handful of nuts or dried fruit.  Oh I also vowed no more wedding cake unless its my own, it’s always offered to us and my total weakness.

I also started doing some workout videos or trying to get to the gym when I have time.  I should be doing more, but being right smack in the middle of wedding season and planning my own wedding there isn’t much time left in the day.  I guess I could give up my bee and blog time but I think I would miss you guys too much. 🙂

Good luck!! Feel free to PM me if you want any healthy low carb low fat quick recipes.

ps I’m on my phone on the way home from a wedding so sorry for the typos and spelling 🙂

If you need motivation, you can post on our Workout Buddies thread.  I post a new one every Monday.  We talk about our dieting triumphs and pitfalls and when we go to the gym.  It’s been a little quiet lately because of the start of summer but I’m getting back into working out next week hopefully!

Good for you! You have such a great attitude. My weight is always up and down, but there is no doubt that I always feel so much better when I am eating healthy and getting exercise.

It is so important to me that both Fiance and I work on getting healthy (losing weight, lol) for our wedding day!

There is a lot of political correctness on the topic… but basically the gist is, you are supposed to *have* to feel pretty even when you are overweight, or else somebody is quick (TOO quick) at labelling you as “insecure”.

The fact is, I’ve been 45 lbs heavier because of medical reasons (medications I had to take), and let me tell you… it’s NO fun. It’s impossible to feel good when you have spent your entire adult life being skinny (around 115-120 lbs per 5’6” — I’m NOT talking supermodel skinny, my BMI was 18.5-19.5, whereas models’ is around 16.5-17) and all of a sudden you get back to your *fat* childhood. It’s supermega hard to feel good when you were used at sliding in a size 2 and now you are having a hard time fitting a size 8. No matter what the PC mantra du jour is, overweight is not beautiful and you sure don’t feel as good as when you are skinnier simply because you don’t look as good (again, I’m thinking about BMI 19 vs BMI 24, NOT impossibly low BMI).

Anyway, I did lose the weight although I stayed on the medications. So it IS indeed possible.

Just try not to feel guilty for feeling badly about your weight. The world has gotten so warped that people are oddly comfortable being either unhealthy and skinny or unhealthy and fat. Strive for a BMI around 19-21.

I’m starting to get on this too! I get these spurts where I exercise and eat well for like 5 months…then I stop for months at a time. Ugh.

I am starting again after not working out for a while. I was feeling so gross and just like tired and stuff, and figured it had to do with the lack of working out.  After just about 1 week, I feel much better.

It’s so hard to start, but we must do it!

Thanks for posting!  I have been lazy and unmotivated due to many factors, namely stress and working way too much, so the weight sort of crept on over the past 3 years…I am to the point now where I feel like crap most of the time.  I don’t feel as pretty as I used to, and with my wedding coming up in 13 months, I think I finally have the motivator that I need to get serious.  Something that I have been doing, since I hate the gym, has been taping different workout shows on FitTV channel.  Its fun because I have a variety of different things to choose from and they are all usually only 30 min. long.  I get bored with certain things so quickly and my gym is full of people who basically live there and are so in shape/buff that I’m super intimidated…this gives me a lot of freedom to do what is fun for me and in the privacy of my own home.  Also, i’ve been walking a lot more since we have gotten our dog.  Now the biggest challenge will be sticking to healthy food…my fiance is a big eater–ironically he runs marathons–so he is always hungry and wanting to have snacks around the house.  I started making our lunches so I know that I am eating healthy through the day and having a lot of veggies and lean protein for dinner.  I have even been able to pass up sometimes when he buys icecream or makes nachos…I am trying to ease into things, because I know myself and if i take on too much too soon i will get overwhelmed and stop.  Good luck to everyone that is trying to get healthier!
