I’m an OEC fan. I’m not sure if it was discussed, but your original pros/cons are not correct. Round brilliants are cut for white light return. OECs and old cuts are cut for more fire. The high crown returns more coloured light vs white light. OECs also face-up smaller because of the deeper cut.
One of the reasons why I prefer natural diamonds over simulants/lab diamonds is also why I prefer OECs. They are so unique, and not only did they take a million years to make, they were also cut 100 years ago and lived a whole life before me. Of course you can find truly beautiful newly cut OECs, but the antiques are totally my favourite because of that!

jellybellynelly : Thank you for the correction. While researching it was unclear about the lighting and I apperciate it being explained. You make an exellent point about the history and I totally agree about natural diamond vs lab created. 🙂

Team OEC, here. (And as jellybellynelly pointed out, OECs are cut for fire,. MRBs are cut for brilliance.)
It can take a bit of effort to find a well cut OEC, but the hunt is fun and rewarding. Check Love Affair Diamonds & Jewels By Grace online to drool over all the lovely photos and videos and start getting an idea of what kind of facet pattern makes your heart sing.
I just think it’s really special to wear a little piece of history. (I’m actually partial to old mine cuts but they seem to be a bit more of a niche taste even among the antique jewelry lovers.)

misslucy : TBH while visiting the sites the bees have suggested I found jewels by grace and love two of her stones! Its juuuuust a tiny bit out of our budget and she only has a 3 day return policy. Ill be sure to visit love affair diamomds tonight:) Im 95% sure I want a OEC now… The hunt is on. Lol

Transitional cut is also an option. It still has the old charm and character, but is closer to a Round Brilliant. The facets aren’t so big and chunky, it’s a ton of smaller facets.

Another vote for Jewels by Grace! If you don’t see something on her site that’s perfect, contact her and she can try to source it for you! I got my antique cushion from her. Similar to OECs. I lovelove love it. dancingfirefly :
