As I said in my post it depends on where you plan to marry on what paperwork is required (Final Decree – Final Judgement – Certificate of Divorce).
Long before Mr TTR ever proposed I was looking to get a FINAL copy of my Divorce for my own personal records so I could move on and put ALL THAT part of my life behind me, that is when I discovered what I would have to pay out
When I found out the cost, I just said “eff it” (thought being I’d pay if I ever needed it)
Luck would have it, that we ended up getting Married in Florida (ok part of that was planned… as we knew it to be an easy peasy State) and all we needed were Divorce Certificates… yippee !!

@This Time Round:
Agreed, always check what states require what (in the USA, no idea how Canada works or how their paperwork works here!)
I was lucky and got the whole file (“Final Decree – Final Judgement – Certificate of Divorce” and etc) for a small fee the day of the divorce, I didn’t even have to be there but wanted the file in my grubby little hands (had to wait half an hour for it to be copied/certified) to be able to change my name back and have the papers for my records should I ever need them (which I haven’t so far except the actual certified decree). It cost me less than $50 for sure, though I don’t reemember exactly how much… I want to say $32 in 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia.
I took it straight to the SS office to get my name changed to my maiden and the lady joked “The ink doesn’t even look dry on this.” :). I was that done. lol.
I’m curious where you lived that you had to pay a lot to get that? I 100% believe you, places are crazy in what the rules/costs are. I’ve just never heard of anywhere requiring more than a copying fee to get the whole thing and maybe a bit extra to get it certified copy (even if you weren’t part of it) for a divorce or other filing. Admittedly my experience is limited to a few states in the US, which is why I’m curious which state or county are so crazy and money hungry!!!

Done and DONE!!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!! We had to drive 2 states and back to get it but it was a beautiful day for a drive. And it only cost us $10! Only took 3 minutes to get once there. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very good! Glad it worked out.
For Fiance and I to get married, we needed his divorce certificate and that cost him 20 bucks at the county clerk office. Easy as pie.
