Is it relieved by tums or maalox at all? It sounds pretty severe for heartburn. I would be a little concerned about a gall bladder flare. Do you have a gall bladder? If it’s that excruciating, and NOT relieved by antacids, I would have it checked out. Even though the doctor assured your husband it’s ok, doctors can be incorrect sometimes.

PSUgirl08: I also was going to ask, could it be your gallbladder? I suffered with it and found out from a friend who suffered with whilst pregnant that it’s common during pregnancy. It’s bloody painful! My mum said it’s worse than labour.

I am not pregnant, but deal with severe heartburn on a daily basis. Food choices are the biggest things that help me. Coffee, sweets, anything fried (or greasy), super spicy foods, or anything acidic can set my heartburn on FIRE! A more bland diet (oatmeal is awesome!) typically helps me keep my heartburn under control. Some acidic foods (vinegar & citrus fruits) have been shown to help with heartburn, acid fights acid.

I am not sure if it’s the same during pregnancy, but wanted to share the knowledge I’ve learned with a lot of trial and error.

treatment is usually surgical. i’m not qualified to advise beyond that. generally gall bladder attacks are triggered by eating high fat foods. It could totally be heartburn. I don’t think you answered my question, is it relieved by tums or antacids?

PSUgirl08: Treatment is surgical removal. Mine at first was eased with remegel (indigestion chews) then it came back so got prescribed tablets which worked, years later it came back fighting harder and they realised that’s what it was the years previous infact I had first symptoms at 18 and was diagnosed with IBS. I didn’t find fatty food made the symptoms worse, it endd up being anything. At one point I was living on water, on the plus side I went down to a size 10. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, especially while pregnant.

I’ve had the same pain as you…it is terrible.  Tums were a joke, but I’ve had good luck with Zantac.  We thought it was could have been my gallbladder, but an ultrasound showed it was fine.  Definitely mention it to your doctor next week if it continues.
