@BeeM: Yes, I agree.

I don’t mean to rain on your parade!  Have you seen her wedding work?  Some bees have had luck with it and a number of others have not.  Make sure you are really specific and write down exactly what you want since I’m thinking you are lacking a formal contract right now since it’s a friend.  You only have one shot at this day, so make sure you’re all good!  Write down poses, number of pictures, what it includes, what rights do you get, how many hours, who you want photos with, printing, ect. Basically everything you’d get from a contracted vendor.  And you might want to see what happens if something comes up on her end (sick, emergency, ect.).  Sorry, I don’t mean to make you nervous or anything or be a Debbie Downer… since it’s your day, you just want to cover yourself! : )

I’d wait until you get your proofs or CD before you go all out.  There is a very good chance that your images will come out fantastic, however, there have been countless horror stories posted on here that began with story like yours…..

Also, what your photogarpher is asking you to do is against most forum rules (including this one).  Instead of being a paying sponsor, she is giving you a discount or free goods in return for blatant free advertising.  On forums, this is called a “shill” and probably not something you want to be part of or advertise that you are doing.

@MsPanda:  Yes people do that on their own free will, not because their photographer gave them a great deal in return for doing it

It doesn’t sound like you are getting cheap rates in exchange for advertising, it sounds like you are getting friendor rates but your photographer wants to be sure she gets credit even if the services are cheap. I don’t think thats breaking the forum rules as long as you don’t make a big post about her website, if you post recap photos and say “credit to Jane Smith” thats ok I think (don’t quote me! just my understanding of the rules!)

Also lucky you! I have one photographer friend, but she will be a guest, and I don’t want her to be working on our wedding day, I want her in the photos!
