To make a long story short, our wedding is only 5 weeks away. My mouth has been killing me so I went to the dentist yesterday, well, I have a tooth infection in my back molar and have to have 2 root canals. How much will those 2 root canals cost me? $3100. Do I have that to spend right now? No. *sigh* THEN, as if that’s not enough, my front tooth just chipped as I was eating something in order to be able to take my medicine for my tooth.
I am in freakin tears, at work, with a swollen left side of my face, my mouth is killing me and now my front tooth has chipped. WHY ME?! Always! Yes, worse things can happen, I don’t care right now.
I know I need to just suck it up and deal with it, but still. Oh hive, I just wanna crawl into a little hole.

Usually you can do the root removal and they put a temporary filling on that lasts for a while… That way you can pay for part of what you need now, without paying for the whole thing at once.
Mostly I just want to give you a hug because dental stuff sucks!

I feel so badly for you, I wish there was something I could do… But I do insurance, not dentistry… Is there anyway you can finance your dental work over the next few months rather than taking it all in one giant heap (no idea if this is possible bc I have dental insurance through my employer, but worth a try non the less?).
What about Fi, does he have insurance you could latch onto? Are you living together and considered commonlaw? Or will you be able to get coverage under his benefits once you’re married?

Aww I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through jezzybell. I hate dealing with dental issues and I’ve had my fair share of them. Just yesterday I got my braces off (which hurt) and now my retainer is killing me and I talk funny.
Just try and stay calm. I know it’s no fun going to the dentist to get all this stuff fixed but see if you can just have everything fixed at once so you can just be done with it or at least do as much as you can in one sitting.

Oh no!! That is the worst! You don’t have anything if you don’t have your health. Whatever you need to cut from the wedding do it, being in pain isn’t worth it and delaying these things often leads to worse problems.
Can you get a second opinion on the price? I am not sure it is worth it but if you go to a dental school (like at UCSD) often advanced students will do the work at a fraction of the price under the guidance of a professional. They are typically final year dental students, in a very controlled environment. The only thing you sacrifice is they take longer.

Also I have the worst dental benefits through my work so I got a discount plan with AmeriPlan. They cover 50% of most stuff (right there on the spot so you don’t have to fill out forms or wait to be reimbursed) so if you don’t have dental insurance you may want to look into getting an outside insurance/discount plan.

Thank you everyone for your hugs and kinds words. They really do help. I usually go sobbing to my Fiance about this stuff, but he’s not around, so you’re the next best thing.
@Mrs.DG: I think I will try to do that and see if I can make it down to TJ to get the rest done. NOW, I just have to get a passport. UGH.
@laurajane: I am going to try and find a place that WILL do it in payments. And, Fiance doesn’t have benefits. He’s under mine, and we don’t get dental.
@hcritton: Thanks for the hugs. And as for Ameriplan, that’s what I have as well. So that I am at least thankful for, because without it, the work would be over 5K.
@sjbee: Thanks for the UCSD suggestion. I would never have thought of that. I will totally look into it.
Thanks for helping me feel better.

Jezzy bell…you can get your chipped tooth fixed!! I used to have a tongue ring and during the yrs it kept chipping away my front teeth but i got it fixed…they treated it as a filling, so they were able to fix it the way it looked originally, even the same color!! it was perfect!

Is it a wisdom tooth or a molar? Is it possible to just get the thing pulled?? That is like $200 if its only novacaine.
I would also look for group dentistry that do sliding scale work or things like that. The dentist I go to only charges about $800-$1200 for a root canal and crown because they are considered a non-profit. They charge patients based on their income. Might you have anything around you like that?
Good luck! I know dentist stuff sucks!! I have to get my wisdom teeth out after we get back from our honeymoon, I am so nervous about it!

I have had 2 rootcanals. Get it done as soon as possible is my only advice. Not to scare you, but the pain gets exponentially worse. Do somethign to calm down before you go in (bring headphones), drink some wine. When I had my first root canal I was in so much pain before hand, the root canal didn’t hurt at all and then they give you drugs after, so it was really great.
Implants are a lot more expensive and time intensive then root canals, so I wouldn’t have the tooth pulled if you would have to have an implant.
Can you leave work right now? I would try to get appointments as soon as possible.
I am hoping the best for you. I hope you can find a cheaper place, but don’t wait on it.

*HUGS!* I hope everything works out. I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this.

I’m sorry you must be in pain. They can’t do anything really until the infection goes down. Can you see if they have a payment option at the dentist you went to? Explain to them that you are getting married and don’t want to have a chipped tooth in your pretty photos.
Good luck and start feeling better!
