with a new venue!
We fell in LOVE with the Raven Lodge at Huntsville State Park. Buuuut, $ and having to bother with logistics, and rentals and the boondocks, etc, drove me to search again.
I found and fell in love with the online food reviews of the Monument Inn, in La Porte(Houston Ship Channel/San Jacinto Battlship Park).
So, we go down, and it turns out, we’d only save about $200, but THE TIIIIME, would be so much EASIER! They do everything, food, plated service, linens(white, but choice of napkins!), padded chairs(yes, the ballroom ones, LOL), and a few lovely views of the actual Ship Channel!
Wellll, it’ll just make it so much easier, b/c we don’t have to have 2 trucks(ours included) with trailers to pick up rentals, have to stage everything, pick it all back up and keep track of all this sh*t!
So, I ask the manager about the little gazebo across the street(after he said we could use their back lawn as ceremony if we wanted to for free-just have to get rental chairs!), and he said it was through TX Parks & WL Dept. Soooo, we stop in the office and……..
OMGEEEEEEE, Fh FINALLY had a “man moment”, and just lit up like a kid in a candy store, when they tell us we can have our ceremony on the BOW of the USS Texas Battleship!!! SQUEEEEE!!!
So, we’re not really gonna save any money, BUT, the TPWD even sets up the chairs and podium(if requested) on the Bow the way you want it set up, and with the more popular set up, it puts the San Jacinto Monument in the direct sight line behind our “altar”!!!
PLUS, they charge $25, but, since Future Father-In-Law is retired Navy, they’ll fly a TX Flag over the ship during the ceremony, and afterwards, they’ll fold it and give it to us, along with a commemorative Thank You(from us) certificate, from the State of TX 🙂 (To present to Future Father-In-Law, as a Thank You, and a Tribute to his TIS)…
Cost break down is only $100 for the Bow, $2/chair, and $6/PP for complete tour/access to the ship. We’d be killing a couple birds(HA!), as they’d do the set up/removal, our guests would be entertained for at LEAST a half hour while we’re doing pics, and it’s not even 5 minutes away from the reception venue!!! Our previous venue was only $370, but the extra $175 is TOTALLLYYYY worth it, after seeing FH’s face light up when she said “Why, yes…you can get married ON THE BOW, under the guns, or at the end with the Monument in the background”…ahhh… 🙂 (See a new post coming, about changing our Masquerade theme, b/c I wanna tie all this in!!!)
So…for those wanting something definitely different, check it out! They have a chapel out there also, that’ll hold idk how many, but it’s only $75, and they even take the time to rope off the section of road leading to your “spot” during the time you need it for!
