Right. I said it before and I repeat it now. You need to tell him you want your money back as he is negligent.

If he won’t – threaten to sue him (And do it if needs be! – this can’t be what you signed up for; you expected, reasonably so, professional, correct training and advice and you’re not getting it. Clear breach there for a start)

Or, just go elsewhere, eat the cost.

It can’t be good for him to be having this influence on your DH! – He (worryingly) believes him!

“I am 117 lbs. I workout 6-7 days a week. I am not trying to lose weight anymore, I am trying to tone up. But he doesn’t think that is acceptable. He wants me to be like 112 lbs”

This guy is an effing lunatic!  Who cares about your contract – get rid of him!!!

@Mrs.SplatterPaint: Wooah. Now, beyond being an idiot in his own field, he calls your husband as if you were an insolent child in school and your Darling Husband is your parent? I dislike this douche and I’ve only spent 10 minutes reading about him. Ugh!

Agree with previous posters!  Many trainers may have SOME nutrition education with their certification but are NOT the same as nutritionists or registered dieticians.  I would just stick it out for the workouts but like you said, ignore his nutrition advice.

Part of the beauty of working out so hard-core is being able to eat some more calories, as far as I’m concerned!

From the various sources I’ve researched, what I gather is that we shouldn’t be eating below our BMR.  There are different methods for calculating BMR and the numbers are going to vary but here is one calculator: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Mine comes out to around 1570.  This is the basic amount of calories per day that my body needs to get around.  I’m sure I could go below for awhile and feel OK, but long term I’d probably feel pretty crappy, especially since I do intense exercise several days/week.

I wonder if they give extreme advice because they figure most clients will “cheat” and go over a little?

Also, 1 lb per day is insane for someone your size.  Even some people who are 100 pounds overweight on Biggest Loser don’t lose that much after the first few weeks.  I can’t imagine that you even have 1 lb total to lose.

@phillygirl629:  Biggest Loser. Exactly. Losing 1lb per day or eating less than your BMR are only things you do when you’re obese. I’m about 80lbs overweight (obese) and I’m eating less than my BMR (over 1700) but still net 1200-1500Cal.

I’m hesitant to criticise your hubby, but he really needs to wake up and smell the coffee! You need him on board with this too, so he can see the rationale behind your (reasonable) issues and support you.

I’d ask him to give me his “calculations” then and tell him that you don’t want to lose weight, you want to maintain and tone– thus replacing fat with muscle mass.  How can he complain if you’re still losing fat?

Also if any trainer called my husband to criticize me, I’d expect my husband to rip him a new one regardless of whether he disagreed with me.  If you have a problem with me, you take it up with me.  You don’t try to weasel your way between me and my partner and into our marriage.

He married you, not the trainer! (Are they friends outside of this too?). He needs to be 100% on team wife. It’s not a question of him being in the middle – I’m sure if he had a major issue about something you’d support him?

I agree with PPs, he’s very wrong. Find a new trainer stat.
