When you go through jury selection process you can give a reason why you can’t do it. I’m sure a wedding would be an acceptable reason. Don’t stress too much!

Is this your first notice?  In Los Angeles you can postpone for up to a year.  POSTPONE it now!!

Just call the number on the summons and request to postpone.

I live in a semi-small city, but usually people write a letter explaining why they would like to be excused this time.

Tell them that you’re getting married!  Surely, they’ll understand!  Congrats!!

I would just go.  Here, you call in the evening before and they tell you if your group has been dismissed or not.  If not, you go in at the approriate time, sign in, watch a video, and then they’ll start shuttling you around to different cases.  They will let you know a trial date and if you can’t make it (because of wedding or honeymoon plans) then just speak up.

Don’t postpone…just go. It’s seriously no big deal.  Very rarely will you get picked for a BIG trial and they always ask if you can do something that big before they even put you into the selection process.

I had a sick family member and put off my jury duty; they didn’t even ask for proof or question me. Just know that you aren’t thrown back into the bucket; they’ll call you up next time. Don’t freak! πŸ™‚

Yeah, even if you can’t get out of it you can most likely postpone it until after the wedding. You’ll be fine!

I would postpone if you can.  If not, you probably won’t even have to go to jury selection and if you did just do what my dad did and say you think everyone is guilty lol.

Immediately find out if you can postpone.  I you can, do it!  If you can’t, on day 1 answer any and all questions with variations of this:  “I can’t concentrate on anything except for my wedding”.  No one will want you if you can’t concentrate on the case.

what if you look up the number for the actual clerk’s office? hopefully, that’s not the same as the jury service phone number, and then you should be able to talk to the person in charge of jury summonses

Which court did you get?  If it’s LA Superior, try this:

Q: Can I postpone my jury service to a more convenient date?
A: Yes. You must register by telephone before you can request a postponement. Fill out Section A of the jury summons. Then call 1-800-778-5879 to register yourself for jury duty. The telephone system will then prompt you on how to postpone your jury service. You may also postpone your service online.

You can postpone the start of your jury service to a more convenient time. This can be accomplished by either calling the 1(800) 778-5879 (SRV-JURY) number on the summons, or by selecting “On-line Services” on the jury website. There are restrictions on how far in the future and how many times you may postpone. In emergency situations you may exceed these restrictions by calling the assembly room number located on the front of your form. You will not be able to postpone your service by calling 1 (800) 778-5879 if you call the weekend prior to the week you are to start your service.
