Frivolous question, I know. I’m just thinking about this because I’m going in for my first vaginal ultrasound tomorrow, and I got to wondering.

i’m not pregnant yet but i’ve had many pap smears/pelvic exams and i’ve had an ultrasound. it’s never even crossed my mind to do anything to my lady bits. the doctors don’t give a shit. they’ve seen it all.
i’m not a cave women but with my first when my belly got big i wasnt going to be bothered with trying to shave my vajay or my legs. i didnt care what my doctor thought.
Good rule of thumb: would you go to the dentist without brushing your teeth.first? So a shower is always a good idea, but beyond that, doctors don’t care. I keep down there tidy for Darling Husband and myself, but the only thing I shave before the doctor is my bikini line.
Funny story-my SIL made my brother shave her hoo-ha when she was in labor bc she could not see or reach it and she wanted it tidy, so your concern is not illegitimate at all 🙂
Definitely yes. Trim or wax for sure! I don’t wander around au natural now so I’m not going to do it when pregnant.
I’m kind of in between choices. I cleaned up for exams, but by the time cervical checks and labor came around, I couldn’t possibly have trimmed myself. I couldn’t see and I could barely reach. I stopped waxing when I got pregnant… too expensive. And the doctors and nurses do NOT care.
Yeah, I imagine doctors have seen it all! I’m in the ‘not that bothered’ crowd–clean and tidy as per usual is my strategy–but some people seem to go the extra mile. A hairdresser friend of mine was so paranoid that she had a Brazilian and a pedicure two days before her induction.
I figure, if I can reach it, I can trim it. But if the belly gets to the point where I can’t reach my lady bits safely, they are going au natural. I read some stuck up labor and delivery nurse who said she wished women would go hairless for labor – and it really irked me. My vagina = My business. If it doesn’t interfere with medical issues, then I’m not gonna worry about it. Plus, I don’t trust my hubby near my love button with anything sharp. Lol.
I’m not pregnant nor have I been but I get brazilians regularly and I don’t think I’d stop while pregnant. I’ve heard it obviously hurts (your vag) after birth so I think having it hairless might help if you have stitches etc but that’s just my thought!
I’ve tried to trim but it hasn’t worked out. Besideds not being able to see anything, my skin is more irritable and I’ve gotten razor burn. THAT is the last thing I want to deal with when I am already uncomfortable. So now I am in the ‘whatever’ category. I really don’t care. Women poop on the delivery table while pushing so I am sure they don’t care about hair.
@cowgirlace: Haha! Thats sooo funny! What a darling brother you have! 😀
I’m not pregnant…yet…but I always keep things waxed. I don’t feel clean otherwise (doesn’t matter how many showers I take), I don’t like the look, and I won’t be stopping that once I get pregnant.
I try to keep things tidy for exams. No clue whether I’m going to care about how my bits look by the time I go into labor.
Ha! This is a funny post. I once asked my OB/GYN what his thoughts were on this topic (actually, if he recommended avoiding brazillian as I read in a health magazine). He said he really doesn’t notice unless there is a problem (i.e. the smell is off due to infection or he sees STDs), but he does get grossed out by some women’s feet (he claims it’s the smell, mainly), so I’ve always made sure to put on clean socks prior to the exam.
I try to keep it somewhat trimmed, but it gets very hard once your belly is huge and with the all the hormones it becomes “who gives a shit!”
