I went to a wedding last summer and they had bowls of chex mix on each table. It was such a good idea! I was starving when we got there and we had to wait about 30-45 minutes for dinner.
We are planning a buffet and it’ll probably be 30 minutes before everyone gets seated, so I’d love to do something like that.
I’m not incredibly fond of the chex mix idea — I’m going for a “classy, vintage BBQ” reception and that doesn’t quite fit. I’d love for it to be something that can be room-temp so it can be set up ahead of time.

Veggie or meat kabobs! That might create a mess tho….

Chips and dip?
Or a cheese/fruit spread?

@Aubergold: Mmm! I did think about veggie pizza 🙂 Those do sound delish though, I love kabobs. I’ll look up some recipes b/c that would be easy if it could work.
@Mrs. Spring: Ok…. is this really weird? What if we put an individual bowl of crackers/chips at each setting then had a “community” dip bowl in the center of the table? My only concern I guess would be getting rid of the dip bowl because we won’t have waitstaff :/

we had anti pasto on the table appetizers. cheese, crackers, olives, cherry tomatoes etc. that was in addition to the passed hors d orves.
What about cut fruit, little nibblers like nuts, and such.
