ohnotali :  sorry about your hair and makeup trial outcome.

Can you not do your own makeup for your wedding? I know ULTA does wedding makeup so maybe you can see if they can give you tips and do your own.

I did updo when I did my hair trial ans I too have round face which makes me look fat so I did half up do but my curls didn’t end up staying because she was in hurry and my hair was done last and looked so messy at end of the night.

Can you try going to hair training school and see if you can do trial with half up hair do and let your hair person know you want different hair on your wedding day?

Hope you find something that makes you happy & feel beautiful!

ohnotali :  I have my makeup done fairly often (I just suck at it myself) and I have found I have to be VERY specific on telling people what I want. I have found most people tend to go on the lighter/natural side, and you have to let them know up front what you are looking for!

ohnotali :  if you are going to get another trial, ask first if they do airbrush or use a heavy foundation when called for. I don’t like to use airbrush unless a person has bumps or scars that will be best camouflaged with the evenness airbrush can lend to a face, because there are trade offs as with any application. But it’s perfect for what you’re describing.

Most important is that you feel beautiful. If you’re most confident doing it yourself, go for it.

ohnotali :

Yelp is great for finding people. I despised the way my hair and makeup trial went. I ended up at a mall salon and the woman did it great and was very nice. I also ended up doing my own makeup. I used it as an excuse to buy a lot of good makeup and looked great and spent less then getting it done. I love colourpop.com for lipsticks!

It’s definitely worth it to spend a little bit of extra time and feel great. Don’t be afraid of going to a salon instead of having them come to you. If you think u could do a better job youself, don’t be afraid too do it either!

ohnotali :  so, two of my friends had a similar experience. 1 decided to go with a different vendor. The other kept the vendor and just asked for changes. My advice to you is, if you are having multiple people’s hair/make up done – do. not. go. last.  Unless you are running ahead of schedule.

The hair/makeup people may want to push you to go last so you are “freshest.”  If you have any doubt about the job they will do, DO NOT GO LAST.  If they take too long, have to re-do something they are trying with you, it is much easier to rush/simplify b-maid hair and makeup. Stinks, but if someone’s hair/makeup job is getting rushed on my wedding day, it’s not going to be mine.

Insist if you must – for some reason they can be quite pushy about making the bride go last.

Have you considered just doing your own make up? I would suggest trying your own + lashes (volume for the camera ) and buying a setting spray. You might be happier looking like you on your wedding day.

ohnotali :   don’t be afraid to bring your own and ask she use that if she doesn’t have one that will work for you!

And yeah, talk to her and tell her your concerns. Good luck bee!

If you still want to use her then hair down with waves should be pretty safe. Bring pictures of exactly the waves you want. And I think asking for more makeup is easier than asking for less, so if you liked their technique apart from that you should be ok. On the day just ask to check in the mirror after each stage (foundation, concealer, etc) and make sure you’re happy there’s enough before moving on. Don’t be afraid to keep speaking up.  I had a horrible HMU trial three weeks before the wedding, it was so bad I canceled the wedding booking on the spot. I ended up having another HMU trial elsewhere – the makeup was good so I hired her, but the hair was still eh. In the end my awesome friend did my hair (SO much better than any hairdresser!).

ohnotali :  if u didn’t like anything about hair n makeup I wouldn’t go to same place for second trial as they won’t make a drastic difference. For wedding I don’t think I would be okay with okay hair n makeup. If they said they do airbrush n now they don’t they should allow u to not go ahead with the appointment as that was not what was promised to U.

Any chance they’d be willing to redo the trial for free or a heavy discount since you were so unhappy with the results?
