Our ceremony will be secular, and we only have a few people we need to mention in our program. We have no bridal party, my brother is performing the ceremony and my fiance’s sister will be doing all of our readings. It seems totally awkward to list her name under each reading since it’s her each time, and I feel like she should be listed right under my brother (who is listed as “officiant”) but I TOTALLY don’t know what title to assign to her. I thought “lector” maybe but it sounds slightly too formal for our fairly casual ceremony and has religious connotations, in my opinion. “Reader” sounds a little… weird to me, but I haven’t come up with anything else. Oh, and “readings” followed by her name on the next line could work, but it’s going to drive me grammatically crazy if I have “officiant” followed by “readings.”
Thoughts? Suggestions? Has anyone heard of “lector” used in a non-religious context?
(Sorry if I misplaced this.)
