I need some guidance to see if I need to make an appt with my OBGYN. I went off my birth control at the beginning of the year after being on it for 10ish years (I’m 24). I got my period last month, but this month I am now a week late. I have never been late before, but I’ve also been on the pill for as long as I can remember. I’ve taken two pregnancy tests and they both been negative. Is this normal since I just went off birth control? Or should I go see my doctor to see if there’s something going on? Thanks in advance!

Your body may just be adjusting to being off the pill. After ten years you wouldn’t really know your regular cycle. I’d give it a few days.

I’m on month 5 or 6 off of BC and still not back on a normal cycle, it takes time. I would wait another week.

You’ve “never been late before” because you weren’t having a period. You were having hormone related withdrawal bleeding. The sugar pills were mimicking a period on a regular schedule. That has absolutely zero to do with your period and your actual cycle. After one month, you likely don’t know what your cycle actually is. Regular cycles can be anywhere from 21 – 35 days and not everyone has a perfectly timed cycle every month (it can vary by a few days to a week).
Download an app and track your symptoms so you can keep track and understand your body better.

Very normal. Wait it out and take a test every week if you’re TTC.

I’ve been off the pill since august and so far my cycles have been 42 days, 67 day, and now going on more than 70. But I just recently ovulated (I’m temping and using opks). Wait a while and see what happens.

This is completely normal and happened to me when I went off the pill too. I know it’s hard not to get paranoid (I was every cycle), but you are most likely not pregnant. I would take another test in a week if you don’t get your period, but I wouldn’t go to the doctor or anything. My cycles were usually 40-70 days long after I got off the pill. Point being, you can’t tell if you are actually “late” because you don’t know what your cycle length and when to expect your period.

Your period is likely not late, you probably just are ovulating later. My cycles lasted 40+ days after I came off the pill.
Temping can help you understand your body’s natural cycle and help you determine when you ovulate to better achieve or avoid pregnancy.

I got off the pill after nine faithful years. The first two or three months my cycle was a little rocky until I settled into a (slightly irregular) cycle of 28-31 days. Also, in the middle of TTC my period was randomly 10 days late…but looking back I think it was stress induced as I was in a REALLY tight spot at work AND planning DH’s surprise 30th bday party that month.

bridetobe44 : Are you sure you ovulated? You might be having a long cycle.

misswhereami : yeah mine are getting longer, not shorter, and I have no idea why. I actually booked a drs spot to start investigating but then I ovulated! I’m now on day 75 (8dpo) so we’ll see. But I keep telling my friends to get off the pill way before they want to get pregnant because it might take a while!
So frustrating, but I have hope this (crazy long) cycle!
