Online Boutique Scams?

On top of reviews, I normally go to their contact page. They should always have a legitimate address and phone number. If they don’t list it, then no bueno.

Some Chinese sellers lately have even gone to claim their store is based in UK/US/etc to try to scam and trick people into thinking they are legitimate.

I have ordered from LuLu’s and Lime Lush Boutiques and I have been happy with both! Recently, I’ve been considering ordering from Saved By the Dress but am not sure how legit they are…following to hear others experiences!

I ordered from Romwe once. It wasn’t a scam, but it was definitely cheap, poorly made clothes from China. The sizing was crazy too! Everything seemed so cheap that it was too good to be true… And it was. A Facebook ad suckered me in but now I know better!

I’ve honestly never heard of Burlap Apparel, but I know what you mean about the boutiques that show up on FB.

Since you opened up a dispute with PayPal, you have 20 days to try to work it out with the seller and can then escalate it. Since you have not received any shipping notification or anything regarding your order, I would go ahead and escalate the dispute so that PayPal doesn’t close it.

Here is what PayPal says:

Once a dispute is opened, you have 20 days to work with the buyer to resolve it (PayPal won’t be involved at this point). If neither you nor the buyer escalates the dispute during the 20-day window, it will be closed automatically. If you can’t work out a resolution, either party can elevate the dispute to a claim, which we’ll cover in the next section.

Please note: Your funds may be temporarily unavailable when a dispute is filed. This hold will stay in place while you work with the buyer to resolve the dispute and will be released if the dispute is settled in your favor.

Claims

When a buyer complaint is escalated to PayPal or the buyer filed an unauthorized transaction

If a buyer dispute can’t be resolved, either party can escalate it to a claim during the 20-day period. At this point, PayPal becomes directly involved and will make a decision using the information that’s provided. A buyer can also file a claim (without first initiating a dispute) if they feel their account has been used fraudulently. During the resolution process, we may ask either or both parties for more information via email.

It really is hit or miss with some of these boutiques. I will say that, most times, when the product is coming from China, you either never receive it or if you do receive it, it’s very poor quality. There are rare cases when the product received is the quality/look that was advertised.

When you see a boutique appear in your feed that you’re interested in, I would research the reviews and the company before ordering. If they don’t have a legitimate website with contact information, I wouldn’t trust ordering from them.
