I’ve been doing so much research into my options for gift registries, as we already have a bunch of kitchen stuff, and don’t really feel our guests need to contribute to more of our kitchen madness.
We’d like to provide them with a different and unique option to providing us with experiences and gifts for our future (i.e – money for our first house. adventures on our honeymoon)
I’m looking for someone who had good experience with a online gift registry, that both allowed cash gifts, and traditional gift options through stores like Crate and Barrell and Target.
I’ve been reading reviews and there are so many companies out there I don’t know where to begin.

Asking for cash is always in extremely poor taste.

@lisa105: i don’t think she was looking for an opinion on the practice of using ‘alternative’ registries. we all know there are some who frown upon this. there are also plenty of people who frown upon consumerism as a whole & would rather contribute toward something practical.
@amycpearson: we plan on using honeyfund. i’ve heard good things about them from a few friends. we are also using Bed Bath & Beyond, for those who want to give a gift, but would rather give something more traditional.

you could do what we did- use a “wish” registry- you put actual items (household too!) on there, but you get cash in the end. It works for us because we are remodeling a moneypit we bought- we need things like floors, lighting, some furniture, etc- so people can “Buy” that for us, but we end up getting money- so they are helping us build our house- which is way more important to me than expensive dishes or wine glasses!
we are using http://www.uponourstar.com – so far, no complaints!

If you want a registry that focuses on sourcing sales from small businesses suggest you take a look at knackregistry.com. They have unique items you can’t find at the big box stores and are a good option if you’re looking to create a more personalized registry.
You can register for a honeymoon fund as well.
