Hello Wedding Bee!
I am new to the boards and am really excited to get some feedback from all of you lovely people!
Here is my situation. I am from Maine but live in South Korea. I got engaged while home visiting in January, and was able to try on ONE dress with my mom and aunt. Now I am back in South Korea. I will NOT be going home to the USA until my wedding in August, 2012. This winter I am having my dress made by this awesome woman I know who has her own bridal tailor shop in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. I am going to put the dress order in in early November.
My issue is, I’ve only tried on one dress before and really have no opportunity to try on any others. I live in a country where 3% of the population is overweight. It’s impossible to find anything above a size 4-6 here.
Do you think it’s too risky for me to order a dress just from how I think it looks online? I am buying a pretty simply A-line, nothing too crazy. When I go to Vietnam to pick it up I will be there for 5 days with my mom to have alterations done. I am just so worried that it won’t look good on me??
Nice to meet everyone! 🙂

It is VERY risky to do that. It has been done and worked out great but there were a lot of dresses I thought would look great on me but once I tried it on… nope. I hated it. So, it is possible, but very risky. If you liked the dress you tried on and can’t try any others on, I would go with that dress.

Even before I got engaged, I knew what dress I wanted. When I finally had the chance to try them on, it was the first one I tried on. I loved it immediately. However, I did try on a couple more, just to be sure. So, although I found the dress that I wanted and it was the first one that I tried on, I would agree with @Ms Hedgehog that it is a little risky to not be able to try ANYTHING else. But if you are the type of person who makes a decision and doesn’t look back or second guess herself, then I say, go for it!

i went dress shopping last week and knew exactly what dress i wanted. looked great online..one with pickups and poofy. got to the place and fell in love with a beautiful casablanca dress. absolute opposite of what i thought i wanted. i tried on about 20 dresses that day. i think trying on more is worth it.

If possible, I would try on more. I tried on about 10 and got the second one I tried on. The rest were just trying to “beat” that one. Didn’t happen, lol, but that dress is pretty opposite of what I *thought* I wanted.

Thanks for the comments!! Very much appreciated.
The problem is, I have no way to try on more! I have not found a dress shop yet in Korea that caters to anyone over a size 2. Not joking. When I get to Vietnam I will only be trying on the dress made for me. They don’t have a lot of model dresses to try on.
My only option is that if I hate the dress in Vietnam, I will have 2 weeks before the wedding back in the States to desperately look for another one and have it altered! My cousin is a seamstress and has her own clothing shop so she said she’d work with me, but it is still so stressful! Thanks for your input, though. Maybe I will go into it with an open mind. If the dress doesn’t work out, it’s only 200.00. Not a HUGE amount of money.
Thanks again! 🙂
