I’ve been desperately trying to find a venue for my wedding this October with no luck. My fiancee and I both don’t want a ‘traditional’ wedding and definitely no banquet halls or golf courses. We really love the idea of having our wedding at a park and having food trucks and playing lawn games and things like that. I’m struggling to find places I could hold something like this since it really isn’t the ‘norm’. I’m located outside of Toronto and would be willing to travel up to 2 hours for the perfect place. Bonus points if its really cheap beucase we’re trying to keep our wedding as low cost as possible!

Where abouts are you located? There is a great place called South Pond Farms in Bethany (between Oshawa and Peterborough) that has a beautiful barn and would lend itself well to food trucks, etc. Not sure on how expensive it would be, but a beautiful place!

I have lived near Toronto and I can find tell you I wouldn’t want to be outside for an extended period of time at a wedding in October. It can be brisk and cool. Not ideal for lawn games.

agree with PP – October can get pretty cold in Toronto & especially surrounding areas (as I’m sure you know since you live in Ontario). At the most, I would maybe sit through a short outdoor ceremony, but I definitely wouldn’t want to be eating/drinking/mingling at an outdoor October wedding. Also keep in mind, a lot of venues won’t even offer outdoor weddings past September in Ontario.
that said, check out these places. most of them are indoor locations but have outdoor ceremony options, and the reception spaces give you the feeling of being outside:
– **Ancaster Mill** in Hamilton – again, they have an outdoor ceremony option as well as a chapel as a backup. Their main room is surrounded by glass windows overlooking the waterfall and grounds. I almost booked this as my venue – absolutely beautiful, just out of my budget (and the food is AMAZING – we went for their Sunday brunch buffet to get an idea of what the food was like when we were considernig booking)
– Kortright Center – same idea, they have indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces (indoor ceremony and reception spaces are in rooms made of glass in the middle of the forest)
– Holland Marsh Winery – they do the ceremony outside. The reception area is very rustic and has many large windows overlooking outside (so you get the feel of being outside without actually being there)
– Fantasy Farm in Toronto (I didn’t visit this venue, but I think they provide both indoor and outdoor options)
Here’s a list of some others in Toronto that might fit your vision:

I would suggest a place like the Evergreen Brickworks. It’s got an indoor/outdoor vibe. I don’t know if its affordability, though. It’s one of the more unique locales in the city.

- Wedding: September 2015 - Hotel Ballroom
I know you said outdoors, but I was a late September bride and it was a little cool out. I had an indoor wedding in Mississauga, and this is where I went. I believe the package we bought with the venue came to about $5000 http://www.grandvictorian.info/
If you have your heart REALLY set on an outdoor wedding, these guys made my short list when I was looking at an outdoor wedding too: http://ancastermill.ca/

Beginning of October or end of October? I’m from Toronto, and either of those can be a bit chilly – I don’t think I’d want to stand outside for hours as a guest let alone play lawn games. I’d be worried that you would base your whole wedding “concept” about being outside and then it’s not comfortable. Is there a reason why you couldn’t do September instead?

Queenston Heights in the Niagara Region. Lots of wide open spaces, parking, bathrooms (similar to the picnic grounds of Toronto Islands before you get into the Centerville area). You can also reserve one of the large covered table areas. Easy drive to Niagara-on-the-Lake &/ or Niagara Falls for sightseeing/ wedding night etc if you’re staying longer than the day. Sounds lovely in theory, but echoing other Bees’ concerns about unpredictable October weather.

So nice but very pricey you have to bring in so much of your own vendors as well…from what I heard its tons of planning but you are right very unique venue.

OI am from Toronto and October is way too cold to have an outside wedding all day, even a nice October day requires coats. I had friends just do a ceremony outside during this time and all guests had jackets on… unless you will have all your guests in coats I am not sure how this will work.
ETA: I like your concept, is there another month you can do this like mid-early Sept?
Our wedding is Sept 16th with an outdoor ceremony/cocktail reception and indoor formal reception and even then I am worried about weather since it is so unpredictable last couple years

Ganaraska Forest ! or Camp Kawartha – i’ve seen some beautiful photos from both locations. North View Gardens in Peterborough – is beautiful as well.
